War on Want Primark's leaders, including CEO Paul Marchant, will be gathering on 4 December for the AGM of its parent company, Associated British Foods. It's a perfect opportunity for us to tell Primark's leadership that its exploitation of sweatshop labourers has to stop.

The clothes we buy come at a terrible cost. Millions of people around the world suffer poverty wages and exploitation. This can't go on.

Thanks for your comment, Emily. We aren’t trying to penalise people who shop at Primark – and we agree that the problem is goes much deeper than just one company. However, we’re drawing attention to this particular company because they're currently thriving during the recession due to exploitative labour practices. Our much broader aim is to achieve government regulation across the sector.

I know people who shop in these places and write to them. I don't think raising the issue is the same as saying boycott them. Emily is right expensive clothes doesn't relate to how well producers have been paid. I think it's good to concentrate on one big organisation - once one changes the others will follow.

I agree. There is only one solution which is to impose import duty on goods from Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi and Central and Latin American sweatshops to increase the price of these goods, sadly. A mention ought to go to GAP as well I feel!
