It is estimated that 31 million Americans experience low back pain at any given time. The back is a complicated structure of bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles and back pain can be caused by a number of factors.
In this series we work on strengthening, stretching and relaxing the muscles ...most frequently associated with back pain. We will also work on posture, balance and body alignment to maintain the natural curvature of the spine.
This series is designed for people who are new to yoga and who have a history of back pain. If you have any questions or concerns about your injuries, please email Megan (yogaforliberation@gmail.com).
Because this class requires a group atmosphere where participants can feel comfortable sharing and building upon the previous weeks techniques, participants are strongly encouraged to attend all sessions. There will be no credits or make-ups for missed sessions.
*Therapeutic yoga is intended to be a compliment to current therapies and medications used to address pain or injuries, not a replacement.

Join us for a soulful and sacred evening of ecstatic devotional chanting with Kirtan Chant Artist David Newman (Durga Das).
Kirtan, also known as devotional chanting, is a practice that merges the ancient tradition of mantra repetition with the magic of music, thus using s...ound vibration for spiritual upliftment. David’s approach to kirtan is unique, combining sacred mantras with his original songs of spiritual love and devotion. This union creates a musical context which both appeals to the western ear while maintaining the essence of the eastern tradition. David’s kirtans are joyous, ecstatic, uplifting and at times exploding with energy.
His unique sound is captured on three CDs: “Soul Freedom” (2003), Lotus Feet: A Kirtan Revolution” (2005), and his latest, "Love, Peace, Chant" (2008).
“David’s music -- especially his voice -- elevates the ear and then allows one to dive deep into the sweetness of the heart.” - Sharon Gannon, Founder, Jivamukti Yoga.

Pilates may not offer the same spiritual or meditative benefits that yoga does, but its core strengthening exercises can change and invigorate your yoga practice. Pilates not only helps to strengthen the core, but it also teaches us how to consciously tap into the power of the center to create greater stabilit...y and alignment in our yoga practice. By developing a deeper awareness of your core strength you will develop greater control over your movements.
The goal of this workshop is to help yoga students develop a personal Pilates routine that can help them advance their yoga practice. Whether your goal is to sit up straighter, hold half-moon pose, or do better inversions and arm balances, Pilates can help develop the necessary strength for difficult asanas quickly. This workshop is perfect for students who are struggling to breakthrough barriers in their yoga practice. Devoting a mere fifteen minutes a day to core exercises can make a noticeable improvement on the yoga mat. This workshop will help you to find your center and move more from it, thereby making your yoga practice more efficient and grounded.

Description: Insight or Mindfulness Meditation is the simple practice of paying attention on a moment-to-moment basis to our own direct experience. This practice of mindfulness allows us to see more clearly our patterns and habits of holding and resistance, and to accept more fully the pleasure and pain, fear... and joy, sadness and happiness that occur in life. As our insights deepen, we develop greater peace and equanimity in the face of change, and wisdom and compassion increasingly become the guiding force in our lives. ----- These monthly half-day "immersion" workshops are ably led by Dr. Hugh Byrne, and are open to new and experienced practicioners. This workshop will provide systematic instructions on working with all elements of our experience to develop concentration and cultivate insight. During the workshop, we will alternate periods of instruction, sitting and walking meditations and dialogue.

Yoga Trance Dance is an exploration of the eternal flow of natural movement through yoga. Beginning with sahaja prana yoga or the experience of prana... initiating yogasanas, Yoga Trance Dance flows into an exploration of free-form, breath driven movement to liberate one's creative life-force and cultivate embodied freedom.
Evolving since Shiva's first offering in 1994, Yoga Trance Dance has ignited people of all ages and backgrounds at Yoga Conferences, Festivals and Studios around the world:
Yoga Trance Dance is a meeting of two great rivers, yoga and dance, which come from and are united at the source. That infinite creative source is the One, uniting us all. Yoga and dance are two of the oldest paths back home.
