Tony Swinton-Lee

Tony Swinton-Lee Hey people! I just joined the group. I'm going to the Watchmaking school in Trios Rivieres QC, in the fall. I would like some books to read before I go, but no-one has any in Toronto, canada. Any ideas? I've been looking for the George Daniels "Watches" but couldn't get it off Amazon. If anyone knows where to go I'd appreciate it greatly.
Thanks.

I suggest that you contact the school and see what books they use. I bet they will require you to get "The Theory of Horology" and "The Watchrepairer's Manual." These two books have got to be the most used books for watchmakers in training. Also look for anything written by Jendritzky or Humbert. Keep in mind, most of these books are older, ... Read Moreother than The Theory of...and some of the stuff is just dated. Of course, there might be quite a few newer books written in French that might be in use in Quebec. George Daniels has a great book, but it is advanced, and doubtfully used as a introductory school book. Isn't Trois Riveres all in French????

Where to go for the books. The American Watchmakers Clockmakers Institute sells them, the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors also sells them and lends them out throught their library. You can usually find them on Ebay and even on Amazon.com, if and when they are in stock.

I'm looking for some feedback regarding the WOSTEP program. Any grads out there that can talk a bit about their experiences? I've generally heard great things. But I'm Canadian so the fees would be three to four times higher for me and I thus need to be more cautios.

Also, any Canadian grads of the program out there? Wa...s it worth it? How did you finance it? What was the final tally? Where have you ended up working?

Please spill your guts. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
