There’s really no point in investing time and money in technical and management systems that aren’t going to last.

Water For People TIME Magazine talks about the benefits of eco-sanitation (composting toilets)! (remember the photo of Lucy Masaka we posted yesterday? same idea.)

www.time.com
For more than a decade, 57-year-old roofer and writer Joseph Jenkins has been advocating that we flush our toilets down the drain and put a bucket in the bathroom instead. When a bucket in one of his five bathrooms is full, he empties it in the compost pile in his backyard in rural Pennsylvania. Eve...

Water For People Not everyday do Presidents support toilets, but they should! Last week Bolivian President Evo Morales came to the small, yet innovative, municipality of Cuchumuela to lay the first stone for the Sanitation Training Center to be built in Cuchumuela. Water For People Would you pay five times what your neighbors pay for piped water for this water? Thousands of people in Cochabamba have no choice but to do that; it's sadly no wonder twice as many babies die in these peri-urban regions than the city 20 minutes away.

Water For People Evidence is mounting - the water challenge is NOT only the people without water but also the failure to sustain past projects. Estimates show that there are 50,000 dysfunctional water supply infrastructures across Africa.

Monica
Monica
50,000 dysfunctional infrastructures, each one supplying 100 people daily would affect 5,000,000 people. Compound that 50,000 to 5000 people daily and that amounts to 250,000,000 million babies, children and adults who are undoubtedly subjected to the possibility of disease and death by delivering inadequate quality and quantity of water. Yes, indeed, Peter Bramley and Jane Anderson..."holy cow" and "monumental problem" indeed!

Thank you Monica! Let's put our heads together to make this a huge movement. Keep the ball rolling and let all of your friends know. Wars are being fought over water and people are being killed because of the shortage which will only get worse...

Water For People Now here's an example of resolving corruption on International Anti-Corruption Day: A Community in Honduras fires a contractor for poor work on a water project. The contractor then tries to bribe the government to get his job back, and the government says no -- sticking by the community decision.
