Free College Financial Aid Workshop - Monday, November 23, at 7 p.m. at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) LincolnShare

Free College Financial Aid Workshop
Dear Friend:
To help Rhode Islanders learn more about the financial aid process and ensure they have access to federal assistance, I will hos...t my 19th annual College Financial Aid Workshop on Monday, November 23, at 7 p.m. at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) Flanagan campus in Lincoln.
This free, 90-minute forum is designed to give college-bound students and their families a better sense of the financial aid options available at the federal and state levels; the eligibility criteria and key deadlines; and the application process.
Financial aid experts and local higher education officials will be on hand to answer questions and offer tips on how students can maximize their financial aid opportunities.
According to the College Board, there is more than $168 billion in financial aid available for college-bound students. However, experts estimate that as many as 1.5 million students who were eligible to receive Pell Grants did not even apply for financial aid.
This workshop teaches students and parents about their options so kids do not miss out on the opportunity to receive financial aid.
I am fighting hard in the Senate to make college more affordable. I helped author the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, which provided Rhode Island students with an additional $85 million in Pell Grants over five years and helped raise the maximum annual Pell Grant to $5,350.
Enactment of my bill to reform the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) created a new, simpler online FAFSA application that eliminated unnecessary questions and paperwork.. I also helped create a pilot program allowing students to apply for financial aid in their junior year of high school to ensure that they are aware of their financial aid opportunities so they can plan accordingly.
It is never too early to begin planning your financial aid strategy, and, as with everything related to getting a good education, it pays to do your homework.
Sincerely,
Jack Reed
United States Senator
