“Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas…”
I love Christmas, the lights along Orchard Road, the carols, the food and there’s just this warmth in the air. No, I’ve not got the seasons all mixed up but I am posting up some wedding photographs taken last Christmas.
Shenn and Daniel celebrated a two day affair - dinner with the family on one at Peach Garden Restaurant and dinner with friends on another at Da Paolo Ristorante at Rochester. Watching the always-smiling couple enjoy the celebrations with their friends and family made the season and my heart warmer and I couldn’t help myself humming Christmas carols as I was on the job.
We do. Wedding Photography by dazza. Here’s a quick one to start the week off. Laysie and Wymen’s wedding was shot sometime ago last year on top of the OCBC building at the Peach Garden Resturant. I spotted a few familiar faces and it was after photographing the wedding did I realise the couple had a handful of mutual friends, most in the design and advertising field and from the TP Viscom alumni.

One of the most awesome-est couple I have ever met - Serena and Gavin. So cool and awesome to the point that, they booked me to photograph their wedding without having even met me. True story.
I was soundly asleep and dreaming of chocolate rivers and flying unicorns late one morning when the buzz of the phone woke me up - 'Private Number' it read, as I stumbled out of bed and put on my best 'pretend to have been awake already voice' (I would later learn that Gavin had saw right through that) - "Hello I'm Gavin, Jodi's friend who referred you to us..." Gavin was calling from Perth, where the couple and their family reside and were planning on holding their wedding back here in Singapore. With that, over a couple more phone calls and emails, the bride and groom were set to have me shoot their wedding. And that is pretty much all the back story to it.
Sporting, crazy, spontaneous... these are but words that I can only use to describe a couple who have humbled me by so warmly calling me 'a friend'. I'm not sure what I did to deserve their hospitality, but I truly am blessed and thankful to have met such a lovely couple.
Thank you Serena and Gavin to have entrusted me with your day and to have been so hospitable. God bless and see you in Perth soon!

Humbly humbled - is how I would describe how I felt with Abrie and Zhou Qi’s awesome hospitality.
I know Zhou Qi better as ‘Chew Qi’ from our reservist unit - where we bitch and moan about how we’ve been taken away from civilisation during our annual In-Camp Training. And it was a pleasent surprise when Abrie and him dropped me an email to take me out to dinner and he popped the question - ‘Dude, can cover my wedding dinner?’
And with that I found myself seated amongst Abrie and Chew Qi’s guests having dinner at My Humble House at the Esplanade in December. It felt easy covering the night’s dinner - because of the couple’s hospitality, their guests’ friendliness and the rapport Chew Qi and I already had from camp. The things I remembered most about the evening, was the very, very, very yummy-licious food at My Humble House (I dare say the food was the best chinese dinner I’ve ever had. Surpasses any Hotel’s wedding banquet) and how Chew Qi kept telling me - ‘Hey man, put down that camera and eat brudda!’ You were paying me of course I have to shoot bro!
Well, I had a wonderful time covering the dinner that evening, observing how blessed the couple was with their friends, family and more importantly the unity of the Bride and Groom.
We do. Wedding Photography by dazza. I loved shooting this wedding. For one, the Bride and Groom were really nice and friendly, I never felt once as just a ‘vendor’. Also, there weren’t any table to table shots - letting Eadwine and myself the space to shoot what we wanted at the Marriot Hotel.

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get. While that is true, it ’s also true that things don’t always go as planned and that is when we roll with the punches and react accordingly. Which is exactly what Liyann and Jimmy did so well for their wedding at Sentosa.
Their planned outdoor wedding was brought indoors due to wet weather. Perhaps that would have been a downer, but the couple wouldn’t have let it ruin their special day. As soon as that clicked, you could sense it was all going to be awesome fun. Because the night was lined up with surprise performances, awesome friends and their surprise video show.

I was getting my ass brusied from a bumpy dirt track AND breathing in dust kicked up by the wheels of a five-tonner somewhere in Lim Chu Kang, when I received Yiqian’s phone call.
YQ: Are you available on the 22nd of November?
D: (Trying to sound like I was somewhere else BUT on reservist).Yes I should be, but erm, erm let me check my schedule when I get back to civilisation.
And so, on 22.11.08 I shot Yiqian and Jinchong’s wedding. At the risk off coming across sounding cliched, Yiqian and Jinchong were really one of the coolest couples I shot. They took the time to set a seat for me at Pine Court restaurant, where I was blown away by the tastest food and the awesome view of Orchard Road from the top of Meritus Mandarin. Apart from that, they totally understood the backlog I had and never once asked ‘When will my photos be done.’ And this made Yiqian really excited when I contacted her - Let’s meet tomorrow! Rock on guys, get some rest when the rest of the office gets back from their season break!

K+K turned out to be an awesome couple who were the most chillax couple I’ve come to meet so far. No bridesmaid sabotages, no haggling over ang paos, no back and forth from bride’s to groom’s, groom’s back to bride’s and no table to table shots.
The only downside was I just got over a 5 day viral flu, which I may have passed on to Kylie who was celebrating her birthday! Even Kelvin said “Dude, you looked so stoned.” What was even awesome-er (Nic, is that a word?) is, Kelvin and I have the same tastes in music. Please step forward if you’ve ever met another groom who is into Sigur Rós and Explosions in the sky please.
