What inspires you to photograph someone for your blog? What I’ll notice sometimes is a silhouette, or a color, or a scarf, a person’s hair. Sometimes, I can’t say what it is. It could be a person’s skirt. ...

Wellesley Magazine Wellesley magazine assoc. editor Francie Latour wrote about the line the new black Barbies won't cross in Sunday's Boston Globe. http://www.boston.com/community/moms/articles/2009/10/25/the_line_the_new_black_barbies_wont_cross/

Wellesley Magazine Wellesley Magazine Our president, Kim Bottomly, has been highlighted in Forbes magazine, in a story called "Barrier Breakers: 15 Female College Presidents." Take a look at http://www.forbes.com/2009/10/06/female-college-presidents-forbes-woman-power-women-harvard-princeton_slide_4.html.

Kim hardly broke any barriers at Wellesley! We've ALWAYS had female presidents!

Ah, but she has indeed broken barriers. For one, she's not a Wellesley alum. The piece is about so much more than being a female president of a women's college. After reading the piece, it confirms my pride in having a world-renowned scientist as our college president! President Bottomly is so brilliant, it's just ridiculous (if I may say such a ... See Morething)!! I'm extremely proud! I am sure other students like myself are grateful for the new financial aid policies. The piece omitted her election into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences....now that's very cool.

Wellesley Magazine The end of an era: This year, the College discontinued landline phone service in dorm rooms. 90% of the class of 2013 brought cell phones with them to campus. Last year, only a handful of students requested having landline voicemail service. Most students didn’t even know their extension. There are now, however, severa...l public landline phones in each dorm. And the odd hamburger phone in a dormroom… purely as décor.

A shout out to my Wellesley little sis who was way more organized than I - and our friendship started when I 'announced' that I, a senior, would need to use her phone until my phone was installed. And, to Prof. Mary Kate with whom I shared that phone - we long extension wires going from room to room.

Wellesley Magazine We recently received a letter from Eleanor, class of '27. This 105-year-old alumna notes that the '27 class notes column has been blank for some time, but writes, "I know there are many of us still around, undoubtedly in wheelchairs. But we look down on our feet and thank them for the many miles they have carried us a...nd the sights we have seen." Her full letter will appear in the class notes section in fall.

Wellesley Magazine They're baaaack. The full student body is now on campus, beginning classes today. Today the Boston Globe reports that "Colleges find juicy titles swell enrollment." As in juicy titles of courses. Nicholas de Warren of the philosophy department, discusses the art of naming courses ("catchy but not campy, fun but not fri...volous") and mentions his class, "The Stars and the Sages: Philosophy and the Cosmos."
