The first of two semifinalists has been confirmed for Wendy's Kick for a Million. Paul Sinisi of Ajax, ON, took one step closer to kicking for $1 million as he emerged victorious from an intense Eastern Canada quarter-final event at Rogers Centre in Toronto earlier tonight.

Sinisi defeated Conway by a final score of 120 to zero to advance to the next round. Sinisi had three successful kicks from the 30 yard line for a total of 120 points, while Conway attempted field goals from the 25 and 30 yard line.

From a record 7.8 million entries, four lucky participants – two from Eastern Canada and two from Western Canada – have been randomly selected for the chance to kick for $1 million live on TSN as part of Wendy’s Kick for a Million. The two pairs of participants, ranging in age from 25 to 40 years will compete in regional quarter-final events in Toronto and Calgary on October 16 and 17, respectively, for a berth in the semifinal round of TSN’s fifth annual, international award-winning million-dollar giveaway.

The quarter-final events will take place on Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17 at Rogers Centre in Toronto and McMahon Stadium in Calgary during halftime of the Edmonton @ Toronto and Saskatchewan @ Calgary games, respectively (see contest format details below). Highlights and results from the quarter-finals will be featured during the Argonauts and Stampeders games, with both quarter-final events also available on-demand at TSN.ca.

The entrants randomly selected to take part in the regional quarter-finals are:

Eastern Canada Participants

Paul Sinisi of Ajax, ON – a 28-year-old Canada Post letter carrier

Paul Conway of Stoney Creek, ON – a 40-year-old St. Marys CBM technical services field representative

Western Canada Participants

Steven Olson of Edmonton, AB – a 25-year-old University of Alberta physics graduate student

Murray Phillips of Calgary, AB – a 25-year-old Mount Royal University international business student
