A postcard from 1910 wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving and a “Jolly Feast.” The attitude of gratitude is a way of looking at the world and other people that can be developed. Positive forces in the world attract; negativity repels. We can all consider ourselves lucky. Af...

A kind soul sent me a package that contains two items she thought I would like. First of all, I was very surprised to see that aprons were sold as yard goods, to be cut out in pieces and stitched together. She sent the same apron yardage in two colors, blue and pink. Do you [...]

Quilter's Muse Publications On Thursday, take a moment to remember Sarah Josepha Buell Hall, a woman from Newport, NH who lobbied politicians to approve an official day of thanks on the 4th Thursday of each November. She wrote the song "Mary's Lamb" ("Mary Had a Little Lamb") and edited the 19th c. Godey's Lady's Book. Read more about her on our website.

Sarah Josepha Hale, editor of Godey’s Ladies Magazine for nearly 40 years, launched a campaign to recognize Thanksgiving as a national holiday. She wrote many editorials in the magazines and sent letters to governors and presidents. Her efforts became reality in 1863, when President Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November as a national day of Thanksgiving. ... Read More

In 1941, Thanksgiving was finally sanctioned by Congress as a legal holiday. They set the date as the fourth Thursday in November. Americans have observed the day ever since.
