Personally, aside from Jamal Rekabi's musical performance, and a few props I was partial to because I spent a lot of time helping to make them, I found absolutely nothing to like about Manna. The 75 minutes seemed interminable, and had there been an interval I could not have forced myself to return. I do not believe my failure to grasp the deep metaphorical meanings embedded within the schizophrenic statements of the performers means that I am mentally deficient in any way. It may have meant I was asleep however.

I believe that it is possible for something that is not "toothless" or "predigested" to also be entertaining. Putting on productions like this is not the way to attract people to the theatre or to retain patrons.

Review quotes for MANNA:

'Spielman and Lyandvert have imaginatively pursued the possibility in theatre to give poetic musical voice to the unfathomable and Sydney theatre is richer for their artistic ambition.'
The Sydney Morning Herald

'For theatre lovers, MANNA is the perfect antidote to the toothless, predigested fare that often passes as popular culture....poignant and touchingly intimate'
The Daily Telegraph
