The MLA PR Committee is seeking nominations for inductees to the Massachusetts Library Association’s Hall of Fame in 2010. Nominations must be received by December 14, 2009 in order to be considered.

Antonia Golinski-Foisy Just learned this morning that Bookmobile services through WMRLS will cease at the end of December 2009. For almost 50 years libraries have received collections through the Bookmobile that met the needs of community residents. I know this must have been a difficult decision to make, but a heartfelt thank you to WMRLS... administration and staff for caring so much and providing excellent service for so long. All of you are to be commended for your efforts, they are so appreciated. The beauty of western Mass libraries is that we are family and WMRLS is at the head of that family.

Friends of WMRLS WMRLS Friends ann. mtg - very, very positive in light of lots of bad budget news. Look for info on a possible library rally at the state house on nov. 4. Pencil it in! Also, look for info about what happened at the ann. mtg. (missed you....., but we had a good mtg. at the end of the day). Sheffield is beautiful and the Bushnell-Sage Library is AWESOME.

Antonia Golinski-Foisy Kudos to Linda Wentworth and all the wonderful people who worked with her to make the 1st annual "Book It To The Library" Road Race a success. Linda is the featured speaker at the annual meeting of the Friends of WMRLS on Friday, October 9 at the Bushnell-Sage Library in Sheffield. You can register to attend the meeti...ng at www.wmrls.org . Linda will report on what it took to organize the event and you can learn how you can organize a road race for your library or community. John Ramsay Here is an excerpt from a message from Rob Maier, Director of the Mass Board of Library Commisisoners, about scary times ahead for libraries and their Regional Library Systems:

"I have asked the regional administrators to work with me and with regional member
libraries and regional staff to prioritize regional services ...for FY2011 and
beyond. This planning will include options for the consolidation of regional
library systems with the likelihood of 1 or 2 restructured regions going forward
and changes in required services including support for regional reference
centers."

Its beyond time for us to speak up and encourage others around us to support libraries. I've emailed Mr. Maier directly - won't you too? It only takes a minute.
