William Cowger's African Photo Safaris and Workshops Safari May 2009, during a hike through the bush, a Tanzanian demonstrated the musical instrument he made by hand. It is called a Zeze (pronounced zehzeh). When the strings are not so taught, the sound is more mournful. The body is a gourd and the strings are nylon belts extracted from an old tire.
