Working with the ASPCA, last week we took in 120 chickens seized from an illegal facility in the Bronx. Camouflaged in the urban landscape, these storefront "live kill" markets are peppered throughout the NYC area, serving the needs of those who want to select their meat in living form.

This Sunday, October 4th at 1pm the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary will host it's 4th Annual Blessing of the Animals Celebration. Here at the farm we honor animals every day of the year, but this day is even more special: it coincides with St. Francis Assisi Day, Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday and World Farm Animal Day.
Fo...r this one day of the year only WFAS opens the sanctuary to well-behaved dogs, cats and other companion animals. The event is always multi denominational so that all that attend feel included -- the only common denominator is a love and compassion for animals. Officiating the ceremony this year are monks from Zen Mountain Monastery. Additionally, the musical group Prana will perform their exquisite overtone singing -- always a big hit with two-legged and four-legged alike! Farm tours will be held after the ceremony so please wear appropriate footwear if you would like to participate.There is a suggested donation of $10 per adult, and refreshments will be served.
