Jennifer

Jennifer Hey folks! We are new to the area and I'm due for my first haircut since the move. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good salon/hairstylist here in Winchester?

Lloyd What about the Brown Proctor Hotel. Sunday lunch was always a treat there. I still remember their rolls (and the wonderful aromas.) Always fun to see friends there, too.

Lorie Kohl Harlow

Lorie Kohl Harlow I always loved downtown, Leeds Theatre, Bloomfields (where you could take something home without paying first so you could talk your parents into buying it), the corner drug store and the "5 and dime". I remember getting a Barbie at the Western Auto next to Leeds - of course this was all in the late 1960's early 70's....ahh memories

I had 2 Aunts who worked at Newberry's all most of their lives. If you ever bought candy out of the glass and wooden bins, you've met them. Goldie Allen and Lucille Owens. they also lived next door to each other their whole lives. Everytime I would be going to Leeds, I'd stop by and they would hook me up on the candy. I miss those two.

I remember Wester Auto and Newberrys. I also remember thhose two wonderful ladies. As a child from 'the hollar' I would walk to town about everyday and spent many hours inthat store. They were always nice to me. Our town has changed so much from the 70's! Now I miss being a kid!

Downtown Winchester

Downtown Winchester The above picture is in Moultrie, GA and as you can see their Court House looks very similar to ours in Downtown Winchester. This year we are duplicating this look and taking lights from the top of our Court House across Main Street and attaching them to the buildings on the High Side of Main Street. There are over 2,...000 bulbs that will be turned on right before the Christmas Parade December 5th. For $5 a bulb you can buy one in honor or in memory of someone special to you. The day of the parade there will be a map in the Winchester Sun showing the bulbs that are named after wonderful people in all our lives.

To buy a bulb simply fill out the application below and mail, along with $5 (cash or check made payable to the City of Winchester) to Winchester First, P.O. Box 40 Winchester KY 40391.

That is the coolest thing I have heard all day!!!! What a small world! We are only doing 10 strands this first year and adding to it every year. So ours won't be as awesome as yours is now, but will be one day!!! You have to start somewhere! I'll take pictures and put them on here for you. Merry Christmas to you!
