• SITE OF THE WEEK • THE DRIFTLESS GROTTO (West Lima, Richland County)
This abandoned attempt at creating a "village park environment" by a group of dyed-in-the-wool artists was started in 1998 but, for some reason, never completed. Maybe because their lofty goals for this tiny country town were to include (according... to their own website):
1) A stone-pillared concrete & blue-glass bottle archway entrance;
2) Mosaiced fence around the perimeter of the square;
3) A vernacular futuristic tower housing a Jules Verne-style "time machine" which will be operated by the movements of live birds inside a heated aviary;
4) Carved & painted remains of a dying 200 yr-old willow tree in the lot;
5) Flow-form water fountains & birdbaths & picnic benches; &
6) A web of tunnels inspired by & emanating from the extant remains on the lot of an old basement & a cistern which local folk tell us was literally the town watering-hole & weekly gathering place many years ago.
7) A bog garden of endemic carniverous pitcher plants.

Added new sites, photos & info to Portage, Waushara, Waukesha, Walworth and Washington counties.
Added new photos and/or info to Winnebago, Dodge, Jefferson, Racine, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Fond du Lac & Waupaca counties.
New sites include a car on a roof, an odd road name, a buried tractor, a bank facade, a motorcycle mailbox & more!

I updated existing haunted sites by adding references to the book "Ghostly Tales of Wisconsin" by Ryan Jacobson.
I also updated Ashland, Dane & Marathon Counties by adding NEW stories from the same book "Ghostly Tales of Wisconsin" by Ryan Jacobson". Now don't be looking for any full tales on my site. Please buy Mr. J...acobson's book for the complete stories. It's only $8.95.

UPDATES!
Just updated Monroe, La Crosse, Jackson & Clark Counties with new sites, photos & info.
New places include a 2nd King Gambrinus statue, a giant golf bag & skis, a giant cow head, another place where you can sleep in a caboose, a giant arrow & paintbrush (I think), some yard art, a replica lighthouse and a cow st...atue sprayed with graffiti.
New photos added to several existing sites in these counties as well.
