Cathy Walsh Anyone ever have thier blog content stolen? What did you do about it?
A couple florist friends have had entire posts lifted word for word
with watermakered photos and everything!

Have they contacted the site owners? I'd be interested in hearing what their response was - and again, tell your friends to insist on whatever of their's is used having a clear link to their sites. The "takers" may be in another part of the country but one never knows when someone visiting their site is looking to buy floral arrangements for their family and/or friends where your friends are based.

It's a Blogger site. No legitimate contact info on the site, actually no contact info at all. It lloks like every post is stolen from a real florist in the US and UK.

o give you some idea of what the flowers you see in bridal magazines really cost, I've borrowed a couple photos of centerpieces from Martha Stewart Weddings and priced them out for you.Centerpiece #1 in purples and browns with roses, succulents, and fern curls in cast iron urn. $684.

Cathy, you are so right on. We offer the "look" and try to maintain a budget the bride wants to work with. In this case, I do believe the education of the varying types of tulips is in order. I've priced some of the Martha designs and what people have to remember is she is showing a look usually not achievable unless we have cutting gardens in our yards. She has no real pricing that she shows, just the look. It is our place to bring that look into play for our customers.

We sell a lot of cash and carry in our stores....for example, dozen 50cm roses for $12.99 every day. We tell brides that if they want to take their chances with the color (we'll get white included in case for months until the day you want them!) they can pay that price for the PRODUCT ONLY. Most realize that they don't want to chance it and are ... Read Moreok with the higher price to get what they want.

We use the cake analogy with customers (since most of our locations are in grocery stores). They can buy a box off the shelf and purchase the oil and eggs, take it home, mix it up and bake it-using their own time and equipment....or they can go to the bakery and have it professionally done for them...and it COSTS MORE! They seem to understand it when you put it to them that way.

This is a great article! It shows how many people take a florist's talent for granted. What you do is truly a gift and we are very grateful for it!

Sprout What do you think of these blue roses? How much would you pay for a blue rose?

Source: news.bbc.co.uk
A Japanese firm has announced that it will be the first to put the unique flower on sale to the public - at a not-to-be-sniffed-at 2,000 and 3,000 yen (US$22 and US$33) per stem, about 10 times more expensive than normal.

Borrow away!

Alan - you are BAD! But I love it! Perhaps we need to make a "Meaning of Flowers Guide for the New Milenium"! Red rose - "you're HOT", white rose - "they were out of red", orange rose - "the florist told me these were cool"....

I think they look lavender. If that's what they plan to sell as blue, I think they need to go back to the lab, because I'm sure that's NOT what a customer would be expecting, and I'm pretty sure none of us wants to worry about refunding $22/ stem roses!

I vote for lavender. Blue would be the color of the "Comment" button, and the print in the "Friends" names in Facebook.
