During th 64th session of the General
Assembly, the Department of Public Information launched "Citizen Ambassadors to the United Nations"campaign from 23 September
- 10 October. It harnesses the power of online video-sharing and offers a
unique opportunity for world citizens -- youth in particular -- to make their
voices h...eard during the UN General Assembly by responding to the question:
"If you had the opportunity to speak to the world leaders, what would you
say?"
The United Nations will select the best five video entries. The finalists will
be invited to UN Headquarters.

World Federation of United Nations Associations
A Student Initiative Launched by Dr Hans Blix,
in close partnership with
The World Academy of Art and Science
Hope:
After US President Obama's speach in Prague (April 2009), the statements regarding nuclear weapons made by him and his Russian counterpart President Medvedev after the G20, the next few years have the oppo...rtunity to see a real positive change in global nuclear weapon policy.
Threat:
With North Korea rattling the saber of nuclear weapons and Iran's non-cooperation with inspectors, today's nuclear threat is very different than the threat proliferated the arms race during the Cold War. There still remain thousands of nuclear weapons in countries arsenals, hundreds of which are on hair-trigger alert.
Challenge:
With the major nuclear powers recognizing the need to disarm, we the peoples of the world must raise our voices so that the next step foward can be a big one. By yourself, with your friends, with a group online, your schoolmates, or a club you are a part of create a campaign that educates, invigorates, and activates your community in advancing the global push for a nuclear weapons free world. Your community could be your town/city, your religious or political organization, your school, a community of internet users. If we can make our individual communities part of the push, then we can make the Global Community a safer place.
Materials:
Use traditional materials like signs, posters, videos, events, speakers, plays, poetry, t-shirts/fashion
Use the new materials seperating this generation from those of the Cold War; the internet with social networking groups, youtube, blogs, podcasts, digital video, and more.
What you need to do:
Use your materials and your creativity to begin your campaign. Keep a record of your work by journaling, taking pictures, and or making a video. Once you have a comprehensive plan, along with any drafts, poster designs, etc..send us your campaign proposal explaining how you (your group) will be bringing nuclear disarmament to your community. After your/your group's campaign is fully active, send us an explination of what you did, links to websites, youtube videos, pictures etc... Make sure you send this in by the end of July.
You can submit all of this at once if you would like to get started right away on your campaign.
Send your submissions to hub@wfuna.org
If you work in a group, make sure that there is only one emailer that makes submissions.
In the heading of your emails put Campaign 2009: title of your campaign: Submission
If you have any questions put Campaign 2009: title of your campaign: Question
Here's a flier you can pass out to get others involved in the 2009 Competition
