"This is a campaign of possibilites not promises." (Me)
About Me:
Deciding to run for Mayor of Bayonne was not an easy decision. I had to think long and hard about which issues had the greatest impact on the daily lives of my fellow neighbors in this great city. Many of them have different priorities, but all seem to agree that the best candidate would lead Bayonne into the future and enhance the cities infrastructure while alleviating the current trend of tax increases that have been the highest in the last ten years.
The Bayonne Redevelopment Authority recently announced that grant money given to the City, by the United States Army, for development of the former Military Ocean Terminal (MOTT) would be used to fill a gap in the City’s general budget. The guidelines set forth by the U.S. Army state that this money cannot be used for any purpose other than the development of the MOTT. The consequences of these actions have yet to be realized but the results cannot be good. Fiscal responsibility must be the concern of every official in Bayonne. Furthermore with Governor John Corzine’s proposed elimination of certain property tax cuts for homeowners and businesses, close scrutiny of the city’s budget is required to expose any opportunity that would help alleviate the taxpayer’s burden.
As Mayor I would seek to freeze any local property tax increases for the first year to properly evaluate the spending trends of Bayonne’s Municipal Government. I would even take a reduction in my own salary as Mayor in order to help alleviate the city’s expenditures. This would help fill the budgetary gap that Bayonne’s City Council has stated that they must fill with money earmarked for the development of the MOTT.
