It has been said of the Zirk Ubu experience that, “you go home a little more oddly alive than when you came.” With ADRIFT, the group is excited to be pursu...ing a novel direction in collaboration with contemporary choreographer and UCSD professor of dance Liam Clancy. We invited Professor Clancy to direct the show in order to bring in a new performative perspective -- to modulate our mayhem with a modicum of class.
ADRIFT is a moving meditation on the themes of Zen vagabondage and of welcoming the precarious into our lives. Here we play with the idea of being unmoored, of letting go and allowing ourselves to be swept away by forces outside our control. Leaving behind familiar formulae and the safety of the known, we realize there is nothing lacking -- and that, in consequence, the whole world belongs to us. (A fortune cookie told us so.) This world, this particular sublime mystery, is one of frenetic tranquility drifting, haphazardly, through the circus of everyday life.
Come! Drift along on electrical currents, journey with us into a sublime OtherWorld at SUSHI Performance and Visual Art.
