Graham Barnell is 42, lives in Melbourne, Australia and is married with two children. He has Leukaemia and needs a Bone Marrow Transplant urgently. The Red Cross in Australia has searched the International Registries since his diagnosis in April 2007 but has been unable to come up with a match.

His disease was in remission for 7 months but unfortunately, he relapsed in January 2008 and without a donor his chances of surviving are very slim. His tissue typing is mixed Caucasian/Native American and we have been unable to find a donor for him.

Without a donor his only chance of survival is a Double Umbilical Cord Transplant.

This is a relatively new procedure and we have spoken to the two centres in Australia that have the most experience (Westmead Hospital in Sydney and The Royal Melbourne Hospital in Melbourne) about their outcomes.

Unfortunately they both only have a 30% survival rate.

So we have also spoken to the Fred Hutchison Cancer Centre in Seattle in the USA.

They have far superior outcomes at around 88% over the last 2 years. So we travelled to Seattle in April to get things started.

What we now want to do is to raise the required $US500,000 to pay for this life saving treatment.

We have set up a not-for-profit trust fund to collect and hold the money raised.
