On Friday 18th beat attended a very special fashion event. All Walks- Beyond the Catwalk. The fashion industry is a powerful communicator of ideas about beauty and body image, particularly to women. All Walks Beyond the Catwalk, an initiative founded in May 2009 by Caryn Franklin, Debra Bourne, Erin O’Connor and Susan... Ringwood (our Chief Executive Officer), facilitates a conversation around these issues. Endorsed by the British Fashion Council and inspired by beat, All Walks Beyond the Catwalk collaborates with a new generation of emerging ready to wear designers and a diverse range of professional models to challenge some of the industries long held ideas about female size, shape and age. This project which has relied upon the good will and generosity of industry supporters, has been an adventure, a first step, and an opportunity for a new generation of ready-to-wear design talent to work alongside a cross section of women from sizes 8-16 and ages 18-65, providing the designers with a greater awareness of some of the issues facing the fashion industry right now, at the outset of their careers. What has happened so far? 8 diverse models showcased pieces specifically designed for them by 8 designers for All Walks. Sarah Brown, the Prime Ministers wife, spoke about her support of our work. Erin O’Connor and Caryn Franklin also gave a short talk 300 of the fashion industry’s leading people attended All Walks has been a leading fashion item for Fashion Week. One of the designers Mark Fast used his All Walks model to open his show and two other sized 12-14 models in his show – this was covered by many blogs and newspapers!Read More
