the specific figures in the article are not totally accurate - sales through AbeBooks more than tripled - but those are (usually) only a small portion of our sales - and so our total sales did not triple (still went up nicely though)

bookfever.com - - in the midst of our 20% off sale, and things are going well - remember on bookfever, the full price is shown, the shopping cart subtracts the discount. Got a nice thank you for a customer about using the cloth wrapping (she ordered 9 kids books....) - said it fit her family's goals of reusing what they can -

bookfever.com - finding it hard to work with the rare snow coming down (first time in 11 years we've lived here) .... feel just like a kid with the schools closed for snow, but there are power outages everywhere so I really, really need to get books ready for shipping just in case!

we are planning on taking the camper to Ferndale (with the bikes on the back) and keep going up the coast after New Year's - maybe a day or two at Trinidad or in the redwoods, or even up to Oregon - that is, if the weather is good...

bookfever.com -- We have long offered free giftwrapping, but we just decided to go "green" with this option - so books can be wrapped either in traditional paper or reusable cloth. First order this morning requesting wrapping asked for the cloth! so I hope this will be a popular choice . . .(I am just following my daughter's lead ...on this - she has been doing "reusable" for years)

bookfever.com - 2 days ago I heard that bookseller Nolan Smith had died & ever since I have been thinking of the fragility of the online bookselling community - which is not getting any younger. It seems like so many have gone in the past few years. I never met Nolan, but we had been on the same list for years & bought & sold the ...odd book from each other - but others I was at least lucky enough to meet, even if briefly.

bookfever.com - book serendipidity strikes again! I was just about to catalogue a signed ARC of Mueenudin's book IN OTHER ROOMS, OTHER WONDERS when I realized that any moment the National Book award winners (for which this is a finalist) will soon be announced - - I also have a very special copy - he inscribed it to me, and note...d that this was just the 3rd book he had ever signed as an author! not for sale...

bookfever.com - follow up to registration fun - I don't think I have ever been able to simply "transfer ownership" of a used car in one visit... the snag this time - car bought in Colorado, had been registered in Colorado, but we had a Calif pink slip and I need a statement from CO that a CO title was never issued... oh well, we pai...d our money, so they won't fine us..

bookfever.com - went to register the "bookmobile" (aka camper van) - since we had to pay sales tax on the purchase price, I feel like we have done our bit to help CA's budget deficit. Interesting to see the DMV up here in Jackson in the era of reduced government - DMV offices are closed on Fri in Nov, so Mon was busier than ever. ... Usual wait time at that office - 20 min - this time, over 2 hours, and I just squeaked in..

bookfever.com might have found a collaborator for my long-planned bibliography of Augusta Huiell Seaman - with two of us pooling our knowledge, we should be able to accomplish a lot more - so I'm pretty jazzed about this!

bookfever.com finally decided to list an uncommon book we have - Andersonville Violets, by Herbert Collingwood, published 1889, a novel written in an attempt to heal the continuing divide between the North and the South, and especially over the treatment of prisoners-of-war. Loads of print-on-demands, etc - but no other firsts. Late...r as an editor, Collingwood led the charge against the hyping of a Burbank hybrid -"wonderberry."

one of the neat things about books and bookselling is the "serendipity" in how things come together in unexpected ways - I think this was a really popular novel at the time- there SHOULD be more copies....
