Exhibit your art & raise awareness!
All entries will be displayed at the World AIDS Day exhibit from Nov. 30 - Dec. 22, 2009. The exhibit will be located at University of Houston - Clear Lake, Bayou Building, Atrium II, Level II.
Started ...on 1st December 1988, World AIDS Day is about raising money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice, and improving education. The purpose of this contest andexhibit is to help bring attention to the continued worldwide struggle with this disease. Such awareness is crucial in the fight against AIDS.
Prizes will be given for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
All contestants and community members are invited to attend the reception on
Monday, November 30, 2009 from 6pm– 7:30pm at University of Houston - Clear Lake, Bayou Building, Atrium II, Level II. Winners will be announced and honored at that time.
Contest Guidelines
Artwork must be 2-dimensional and equipped for hanging; dimensions not to exceed 20’ x 24” (including framing).

Twogether in Texas workshops are skills-based marriage preparation classes to provide couples with the tools needed to manage the inevitable challenges found in every relationship. The classes consist of 8 hours of fun, interactive training focusing on communication skills, conflict management, and other key elements o...f a healthy marriage. We desire that couples learn to love for life!

Transgender Day of Remembrance Speaker. This day is to honor those members of the worldwide Transgender community who have been killed due to hate and violence and to raise awareness of the magnitude of the violence and the need for more inclusive hate crimes laws.
Our speakers will speak to both purposes of the day.

We are excited to announce that Mrs. Nandita Berry will be our speaker for this presentation. Not only is Mrs. Berry senior counsel for Locke, Lord, Bissell, & Liddell LLP, but she was... also recently apointed by Governor Perry to a seat on the UH System's Board of Regents. Her high level of success in both the legal profession and in educaitonal administration make her truly inspirational.
Additionally, Mrs. Berry is a native of India and will bring her diverse propspective to the topic in honor of International Education Week.
Due to the prestige of our guest, we request that people RSVP to Julie Smith. This is not required for attendance, but would be appreciated so that we can be sure to have enough seats for everyone.

The Vagina Monologues is a powerful play created to bring awareness to the plight of women around the world. Performances of the play are a part of the international VDAY Campaign to stop violence against women and girls.
UHCL's 2010 production of the play will be held on February 19, 2010.
Auditions for the play will ...be held November 17th & 18th from 5 - 8pm and on November 20th from 1:30 - 3:30pm in the Student Organization's Room in the SSCB.
Auditions will be causal, so please come at whatever time (with those time periods) suites you. You will be provided with a monologue upon arrival and given a few minutes to prepare prior to reading.
If you are not an actress, but would like to be involved we would love to have you volunteer to help with stage crew, marketing, and fundraising. Please just contact Julie Smith to be a part of the production.

She is also a co-host of Queer Voices on KPFT- FM and hosts the “Common Sense” radio program. Additionally, as a transgender activist, Ms. Pool has received several honors and served in many leadership roles throughout the Houston LGBT community.

NOH8 is a national photo campaign to protest against Proposition 8 and other laws which prohibit gay marriage. Join UNITY and IISS on Friday to have your picture taken in support of marriage equality!
The pictures taken will be used for a photo display which will be set up Monday, October 12th in the Gar...den Room in conjunction with Ray Hill's speech.
Lunch will be provided Friday for those whose picture is taken.
