iVillage UK Sandra Horley OBE, a social-psychologist, has worked with abused women and children for nearly thirty years. Since 1983 she has been chief executive of Refuge, the world's first refuge for women escaping domestic violence. Previously she worked as director of the Haven Project in Wolverhampton and also as a counsellor..., homelessness officer and housing advice worker.

Sandra is a committed campaigner on behalf of abused women and lobbies for changes in policy and legislation. She has been involved in the training of police, health, housing and social workers and was the first civilian woman to address the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). She also frequently gives talks and interviews and has conducted award winning advertising and media campaigns. and has written numerous articles for the national press and professional journals.

In 1999 she was awarded an OBE for `services to the protection of women and children'.

Refuge are launching an exciting new awareness raising campaign on Wednesday, November 25, the international day for the elimination of violence against women

Sandra will be answering questions about domestic violence: how to get help, how you can help a friend, how to speak out and make a difference for women experiencing domestic violence.
