Promoting your Facebook Page outside Facebook

While Facebook Ads are effective at driving word-of-mouth marketing for your Facebook Page on the site, we also recommend promoting your Page externally to help spread the word to new customers and fans.

When promoting your Page off Facebook, encourage your customers to interact with your Facebook Page and show their support as “fans”. The more fans that interact with your Page, the more opportunities your business has to generate interesting social stories that can spread virally through Facebook. A Facebook Page thus provides you with powerful ways to generate awareness, connect with your customers, and build relationships with your fan base on Facebook.

We have provided the following guidelines to help you clearly and effectively promote your Page outside the Facebook site. You are required to adhere to these guidelines when promoting your Facebook Page, so please read them carefully. Please note that Facebook reserves the right to remove or disable access to any Facebook Page that violates our Terms of Use or our Promotional Guidelines below.

1) Use or reference to the Facebook brand should not imply partnership, endorsement or sponsorship unless approved by Facebook Brand Marketing.

Ways you may refer to your Facebook Page:

  • Do: “Find us on Facebook to discover more about...”
  • Do: “Company X on Facebook”
  • Do: “Check out the Company X Page on Facebook”
  • Do: “Find us on Facebook”

Ways you may NOT refer to your Facebook Page:

  • Don’t: “Check out the Company X Facebook Page”
  • Don’t: “Company X partners with Facebook in social advertising campaign”
  • Don’t: “Facebook and Company X commit to serving you better ads”

2) Do not use icons, visuals, logos, etc. taken from the Facebook site. Instead, Facebook offers the following tools to promote your relationship with us:

Facebook Page Badge – The “Find Us on Facebook” badge provides your business a way to promote your Page off of our website, and help direct your customers to your presence on Facebook. This Badge can be applied in-store or on location, on the web, and in print collateral.

Ways you may use the Facebook Page badge:

  • Do: hyperlink the “Find us on Facebook” badge to your Facebook Page.
  • Do: hyperlink the name of your business within your promotional copy to your Facebook Page. For example, Company X on Facebook

Ways you may NOT use the Facebook Page badge:

  • Don’t: hyperlink the “Find us on Facebook” badge to the Facebook log-in page.
  • Don’t: hyperlink the word “Facebook” within your promotional copy to your Facebook Page. For example, Company X on Facebook

Facebook Page Screenshots – Facebook also permits advertisers to feature unaltered screenshots of their Facebook Page provided that the screenshot does not reveal any personally identifiable information about our users without their written consent.

3) A registered trademark symbol ® must be included in all print / online displays of logo or wordmark that reference the Facebook brand.

Where possible, include our legal copy on all print promotional materials: “Facebook is a registered trademark of Facebook, Inc.”

4) When advertisers request use of Facebook brand features, they may or may not require a Trademark License Agreement from the Facebook Legal team.

Uses that require a Trademark License Agreement - Third parties require a Trademark License Agreement if the use of the “Facebook” trademark and logo in any way (a) confuse the public into thinking that there is some sort of connection (sponsorship, endorsement, association) between the third party and Facebook, or (b) confuse the public as to who owns the Facebook trademark or as to who provides Facebook’s products or services.

Uses that do not require a Trademark License Agreement – Third parties can use the word “Facebook” without a license when they are simply describing or identifying Facebook’s products or services (e.g., “Facebook is a social utility,” or “Check out our group on Facebook.”)
