@ Paul Flindt. CS500 won't be replacing any current product but rather offer the user different features than CS400 or CS600X.

Polar has no immediate current need to adopt any other proprietary protocols because Polar already has a highly advanced W.I.N.D protocol. Going forward, Polar believes that Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is the clear choice because:

1. It is open and not a proprietary protocol owned by another single company seeking licensing fees for their proprietary protocol. The continued development of BLE will remain open and development can be assured.
2. The BLE standard will enable data transfer for the convergence between mobile devices and Polar devices.
3. Polar has been actively contributing to the development of the BLE standard by sharing expertise in the sports and fitness environment product development formed over 30 years. We are confident that the BLE will deliver excellent performance in this demanding environment.... Read More
4. The BLE standard will be adopted by all the major consumer electronics manufacturers for use with all kinds of mobile devices, lap-tops and other computers, etc. This will allow Polar to eventually seamlessly converge functionality with other devices.

Polar WearLink®+ Bluetooth Transmitter is the first-step towards the eventual adoption of the incoming BTLE standard.

Polar needs partners and 3rd parties to integrate with it's systems. There's lots of room to dominate the sports computer market and the winners have yet to be decided, but MSFT won the OS ... Read Morewar not because it was open but because of developers and the cost to develop on the platform.

Personally I'm rooting for Polar but at the moment I don't have power on my bike. Soon I will, but right now I'm a bit afraid about my choices.
