Back in 1979, Betty worked at DCARA— Deaf Counseling, Advocacy & Referral Agency in Oakland, California as Public Relations Director. Among other duties, she was responsible for the agency newsletter (she became Executive Director for part of 1980, before moving to Los Angeles)...

This was fun, and a little frustrating. I only got 27 names in this game, but I know I typed in a lot more than that! Some of the things I typed were spelled wrong, so weren’t accepted and I didn’t try again. Others just aren’t in the list...

Today Betty and I were watching a TV program called “Modern Marvels” on the History Channel. The focus was on bathrooms— history, technology, manufacturing and future trends. And they mentioned that water isn’t enough to get clean, you need soap too...

Saturday, April 4, 2009: What a day. A wonderful day for Betty, even if she did fall (more on that later, and yes, she’s fine). Actually it’s a wonderful 3-day weekend. Betty and I are in DC for Gallaudet’s Charter Day ceremonies and the Gallaudet University Alumni Awards...

“…WAS IN TOWN SHOOTING LAW ABIDING CITIZENS.” That’s what the closed captions said on my local noon news report today. But it wasn’t a story about a horrible crime wave...

This story comes from my friends, Larry & Carolyn Brick. Residents of Philadelphia, they are currently going west– to ski– and have their two “hearing ear” dogs with them (the current preferred terminology is service animal)...

The Flip Mino camcorder with Bettigee's Heart & Hand design Looking for a special gift for someone special? This is unique and functional– a camcorder with Betty’s popular hand & heart design...

Got email that today’s the last day for cheap shipping of your order to arrive in time for Christmas. I’m working on some new products, so keep an out out this afternoon and evening. http://www.cafepress.com/purpleswirlarts

Heart and Hand design by Betty G. Miller I posted new products today featuring Betty’s popular hand and heart design. These are a denim shirt, zip hoodies both light and dark fabrics, jackets for men and women, and regular hoodies, now available in black and navy blue...

Without a doubt, the calendar has been the most popular item in our Cafepress online store. First published in 2004, this will be the last year for this particular calendar (we have some ideas for a new calendar next year)...

Just a note– I failed to write about our trip to NTID at the time, and I’m writing about that terrific trip now. I’ve got three drafts going, and go back and forth between them as new memories come forth. Will probably publish them all at once.

Betty and I traveled to Rochester, NY for events connected with Betty’s art show yesterday, October 14th. My head wanted to post my first travel blog yesterday, but my body and mind were too tired. It’s been hectic getting here...

Now that Betty G. Miller’s retrospective is open at the Dyer Gallery in Rochester (more in a later post), I finally completed the writing and image preparation for the online store for original art on Etsy: http://purpleswirl.etsy.com...

Maybe it’s because Twitter isn’t in my pocket on a pager; or maybe it’s because I’m basically an introvert and while I love the people I love, being with them can drain my energy rather than give me energy; but I don’t (yet) get the community aspect of Twitter...

Last week, on June 13th, I set up a group on Facebook for fans of De’VIA. The name came from Patti Durr– Viva De’VIA is what she used as a title for the poster explaining De’VIA for the NAD Conference’s De’VIA Creative Space...

Betty got a request from Chuck Baird (CB) and Patti Durr for photos of several of her artworks to be part of a poster project for the De’VIA Creative Space that’s going to happen at the NAD Conference in New Orleans in July...

purpleswirlarts Yes, the photo shows the colors of the shirts. But best it to go to the site because you can click on the color and the shirt itself changes so you have a better idea of what it looks like.

A friend asked me if I could post all the t-shirt colors on Purple Swirl Arts’s Facebook page. I decided to do a screen grab of the color chart and put it together. Of course it made me think of Baskin-Robbins since they started with 31 flavors 62 years ago...

purpleswirlarts Ok, what I did was go to the site and grab screen shots of the shirt colors, and put them together. The light color shirts (on the left) have either purple or black fonts; the dark ones either yellow or white.

purpleswirlarts Well, it would be too time consuming to create photos of every shirt. But I've an idea... let me see what I can do...

Something I need to take note of for myself:
"Marketing is a necessary evil. ... After all, without marketing, you have a hobby, regardless of how serious you take yourself and your work. With marketing you step into a career."
---C. Hope Clark
I'm going to step up my marketing efforts. After all, no one can buy if they don't know about the work's availability. This page is part of the new effort. You can help by becoming a fan, posting photos of anything you've bought or own that Betty or I created, and writing reviews on the wall.

I’ve answered this before, but now I’m going to do it with a photo! Basically, it’s just a desk calendar without a year, so you can write in all the important highlights of your life, not just people’s birthdays. This is just so much more personal than the computer...
