I do not agree with the school board in this for the same reasons the parents have stated. Not only does it not allow the girls a challenge, but it also makes the other girls overshadowed. Having very athletic children I have experienced this with Recreational Soccer this year in my son being told not to score and no...t to pass, to have him ... Read Moresidelined. Children who are gifted should play up as it is only fair to them and to give the other children an opportunity to play where they may not have enough playing time. Unfortunately what will happen is these girls will be benched b/c they are "to good" or overplayed...they should be moved up to Varsity, I graduated in 94 and students were always moved up. Highland doesn't realize they are holding children back... move them up! This is from an experience with my child being punished because they are "to good". They should have the ability to play on Varsity. Highland stop holding children back because of their athletic abilities. Colleges also look to see how many years a child has played on varsity... consider that.

Two Orange County schools that I am involved with just require that you pass the maturity test. If you can do that as a Middle Schooler, you can try out for JV or Varsity....or walk-on, depending on the sport.
