Sadly, I have not gotten time to get to the studio the past two days. Yesterday I had the opportunity to go to the zoo and got mighty tuckered out. (Had a great time!!!!) Today was a workday and had a meeting. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get in there and start cutting.

I did not make anywhere near the amount of progress I had hoped. I went and did the hair first – which to me is the most time consuming part to put together. I am going to try and finish this piece this weekend, so I can get started a 1 of 2 new commissions on Monday.

{click image for a larger version} Pinup8 is completed. The black hair is quite detailed, but does not show up very well in the digitized version. Makes sure it check out the larger version to see all the details. I can not sing the praises for Stacy with Atomic Cheesecake Studios enough...

sagworks 111009 - Pinup8 is completed. Check my blog for a larger and less watermarked version. http://twurl.nl/6tnd54

I was able to finish this up today. Things went together well and felt good! These past few days cutting has been felt more forced – but this was great. ...

I completed a lot today – the pinup herself is complete – now I just need to work on the background. I did have to do some rebuilding and cut a new arm – but it all came together well. I am not sure why this piece is taking me so long – I am just having issues staying focused. –detail–

So I was able to get back into the studio to work today – my allergies were under control. I started working on the hair. I was almost done w/ it but I got light-headed and needed to run home to get a snack. ...

So I have not gotten a chance to get into the studio these past few days – my allergies have flared up with a vengeance. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to get some work cut.

{click image for a slightly larger version} This is based on a a scrap of paper I found on my carpet in the studio. This scrap plus all the rain we have gotten lately made me want to play with this concept. This is the equivalent of a doodle for me...

So my time in the studio was a bit of waste – I was having serious issues concentrating. In the end I got very little done – only the tie on her nightie. I’ll get the picture up as soon as I can.

Meet the Artists reception on Thursday, November 5, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the 9605 Building Atrium. This reception is open to the public.
Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County Campus is proud to present Area Artists, an exhibit featuring six artists who all live within 15 minutes of the campus and who all approach ...the creation of their art in a different way with a unique eye.
“With all the buzz about buying local, I thought it would be great if we could exhibit local,” said Sherill Anne Gross, exhibit curator and owner of sagworks, through which she creates and sells cut-paper illustrations. “People always think of large cities, like New York or D.C., when talking about the ‘art scene.’ But there’s an art scene in every city surrounding major metropolitan areas, and the community around Johns Hopkins campus in Rockville is extremely rich in talent. This exhibit allows us to share with the community some of the great artwork happening in their own backyards.”
The six artists being featured are:
* Erin Antognoli, Halo Photographic (Germantown, MD), http://www.eantognoli.com
* Jacqui Crocetta (Rockville, MD), http://www.jacquicrocetta.com
* Pamela Clifford (Rockville, MD)
* Liliane Blom (Rockville, MD), http://www.lilianeblom.com
* Barry Schmetter (Gaithersburg, MD), http://barrys.carbonmade.com
* Andy Cleavenger (Germantown, MD), http://www.graycard18.com
In addition to Area Artists, the campus will feature The Artwork of Todd Gardner in its Café gallery.
“I decided to play around with combining plants, animals, and robots to make some new hybrid creatures,” said Gardner, an Alexandria, Virginia-based artist. “I prepared 20 pieces, involving apes, lilacs, crows, and tattoo laden robots just to name a few. I feel that this process has allowed me to map out new territory and broaden my visual vocabulary.”
Gardner’s work can be viewed online at http://toddgardner.com/
Area Artists will be on display in the 9605 Building Atrium through December 18.
The Artwork of Todd Gardner will be on display in the Academic & Research Building at 9601 Medical Center Drive through December 18.
Both exhibits will be open from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday – Friday; 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday; and closed on Sunday.Read More
