slakethythirst Troegs Doppelbock "Troegenator" - Brown bodied with a sexy frothy head, the aroma is toffeeish but not overly sweet. Rich and slightly slick with bready malts and a hint of warm spice.
slakethythirst Cantina di Venosa Aglianico del Vulture Terre di Orazio 2000 - Slight bricking around the edges, and a minor loss of primary fruit with 9 years of age, this is still very enjoyable. Spicy nose with a hint of alcoholic heat, this aglianico also smells of leather and pomegranate. Rich with mildly drying tannins, and a long spicy finish. Excellent!
slakethythirst Double the hops, double the Fun! Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Ale & Southern Tier Unearthly IPA. The Lagunitas showed a nicely sharp hop aroma balanced by a solid base of caramel malts. The Southern Tier was every bit as hoppy as the Lagunitas, with maybe a little more citrus in the aroma. A more golden malt profile made this seem a touch less balanced, but certainly no less delicious.
slakethythirst Red Newt Cellars Syrah/Cabernet Franc 2003 Finger Lakes. I was worried that this would be over the hill but It's drinking beautifully. Floral and earthy on the nose with hints of dried red fruit. Supple well integrated tannins, vibrant acidity. Far better than I expected
slakethythirst RedHook Double Black Stout. Black as night, black as pitch. Aromas of darkly roasted malts and espresso. Creamy and slick on the tongue. Pair up with dark chocolate or drop in a scoop of vanilla ice cream for something really decadent.
slakethythirst Smuttynose Scotch Ale - Big Beer Series. Big malty aroma with whiffs of smoke. Rich and fat, good snap on the finish. Damn fine beer.
