Sabrina Quintanilla

Sabrina Quintanilla hey guys~ So I'm at a few Japanese music forums and I was thinking about writing an article about you guys at one, to sort of spread the word and maybe gather some new fans of your music!

texas pandaa

That would be so lovely! Thank you so much for helping out! Didn't know there were forums for Japanese music out there. Is Japanese indie music popular outside Japan? Quite interesting. :)
Sabrina
Sabrina
There's a ton of forums for Japanese music! Some are based in Singapore, where J-music is huge, and a lot here in the US.

I'll tell you the truth, at the forums I go to, people mainly listen to the mainstream J-pop, ayumi hamasaki, namie amuro, koda kumi, boa, etc.

But it really depends on where you go. At one forum I'm at, called JpopStop, more people are into the indie bands, and people like Spangle Call lilli Line and school food punishment.... Read More

But, the problem is, that here in the US, we don't really get exposed to a lot of bands from Japan, and especially the indie ones, so you have to kind of make the effort to look and dig around.

It's good when you know other people who know them too, so you can spread the word. I think the best new invention for music around the world is Last fm. :)

Best way to find out info on artists.

Hi Saki-san! Thank you for your comment. We did go to Taiwan last October! We played at The Wall. You can check out some videos of that time in our YouTube box. We have such fond memories of Taiwan! Hope we could visit your country soon again! Lots of kisses to you too :-)
Sabrina Quintanilla

Sabrina Quintanilla The composition for "Frogs" is great! And the vocals are lovely. ♥ You know, I really like the arrangements of your songs. You guys have succeeded in producing a sound all your own, in a genre where...it's not so easy. The harmonica is an interesting touch. It makes an interesting mix.

I think Frogs will be one of my favorite songs when it's released. :)

Sorry guys! We have no updates on our new album! Booo. Our manager suddenly resigned last week and we're re-scheduling everything - from pre-production to tour/gig stuff. We'll perhaps start recording our pre-production materials in June but not sure about the "real" recording dates yet... We'll keep you posted!
texas pandaa
texas pandaa
Hi Julian, you're still 14 times short of becoming an official pandaa geek. But thanks for mentioning - Frogs is not available yet! The song will be included in our next album. I've uploaded the pre-production take on Music Player (on the bottom left corner of this page). Just to be sure, this is not our final take. We will be re-recording the song because we sucked real bad (especially the harmonica haha) on this one. Hope you like it anyway. :)
texas pandaa

texas pandaa We've updated some gig info below:

http://www.texaspandaa.com/ENG/schedule.html

We'll be touring around Japan in September with 10+ other label mates performing for the annual "Zankyo Festival" 5th anniversary event. It's going to be one heck of an exciting event! Let us know if you're in Japan and are interested in coming to one of the shows.

best news in the world! I'd pay serious munny to see you guys ♥
texas pandaa

texas pandaa Our label wants us to get off our butts and go on tour abroad too. They're trying to make us the "hitman" for Zankyo's foreign invasion program or something. We're currently talking about touring around - maybe UK for starters - and US is certainly in our scheme! It's going to take a while for us fix things out but hopefully we'll have some kind of update by the end of this summer...

Julian Young Come to the US. Please :D

texas pandaa Hi Cliff. I'm not quite familiar with chords and scales but I think Asako plays in normal tuning with capo on the 1st fret - so that makes it F maj? Don't know... Asako calls it "J major". I'll ask her and get back to you with details!

Yes those portable recorders are very nice! We always take the R-09 with us to rehearsals to record ideas and stuff. We chose R-09 because we wouldn't need MTR functions nor mic emulations. We just wanted something to rec our ideas in a breeze. I heard that R-09 A/D conversions and stereo image stability is better than that of H4, and ZOOM ... Read Morecomponents (switches etc) could break down easily? We don't know for sure, we have never used ZOOM stuff. But I'm sure H4 has its good points with tons of functions and mic interface. I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. Well anyway we're totally satisfied with the sound quality and conveniences of R-09 as of the moment and I would also recommend you get some kind of portable recorder - you can learn a lot from them!

Most of the time Asako and Degawa are the ones who bring up ideas for songs. We jam it up real good at studio rehearsals until it builds up into a song worth listening to. I once wrote on my journal about this process which was later on introduced on HearJapan.

http://www.hearjapan.com/news/artist_news/Texas_Pandaa_Grumble_About_The_Song_Writing_Process

The article is an example of how we made the song "Days" - First Mikiko made a simple recording with only her guitars and vocals. Then we tried out tons of versions at studio rehearsals (as you can hear on one of the mp3s) and ultimately got Days as recorded on the album.... Read More

Lyrics are written by Asako and Mikiko :)

texas pandaa Thank you once again for your warm comments, Amanda-san. :) Hope nothing extra has hit you and that you're feeling better now. Take care!

There seems to be quite an argument about the pros-and-cons of the new Facebook layout but it sure is going to be one big task for us to be ready in time for the change - we don't even know how to use the current version, ha! We've been trying to implement the music player on our Facebook page for the past several days now but hey, what the heck is going on here? Nobody seems to be able to upload anything... Hope Facebook fixes this bug in a hurry!

BTW we re-arranged some songs on MySpace. Old Times and And What Flows are now available for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!
