Me too! It's a long flight at the best of times and I'd appreciate more direct flights to Scotland. I flew this past July from Sanford, the company we flew with was a direct flight but was dirty and not hospitable, won't be flying with them again, that's for sure! It was also over an hour late taking off and we had driven 3 hours to the airport ... Read Moreto start with.
What was sad about it was that it was my son's first home coming in 23yrs. We were visiting our family after my cancer surgery and my Mum and I needed to see each other and she wasn't doing so great and so took advantage of bringing her grandson home for the visit too. I felt embarassed that I took my son on a dirty plane and it wasn't comfortable at all. I froze going over there, charged me $5.00 for a measly blanket that really didn't do the trick either. Then they charged us for bottled water coming back... but towards the end of our horrible journey home, they started to give it out for free!
Also, we never got the meal we had requested. Why bother asking us to make a choice of meal, if you're not going to honor the request? As I say...it was horrible. I took photos of the dirty, food encrusted tray folded up in front of me as well as the overhead casing to the movie projector. I wasn't the only one who's surroundings were dirty. When I asked the steward to please clean off my tray before placing the food on it... he said it wasn't his job, that the airlines get charged for a cleaning crew to do that. He asked if I still wanted it cleaned and I said yes. He reluctantly went to get a wet paper towel and wiped it down... still wasn't clean. Sorry to go on, but you wonder why people are paranoid about travelling in planes and getting sick?...now I know why. Thank you for listening. By the way...don't fly Globespan Airlines!

‘Remember; remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder, treason and plot’

Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night is the annual celebration on the evening on November 5th that celebrates the downfall of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605, when a number of conspirators most notably Guy Fawkes were alleged to be attempting to blow up... the Houses of Parliament in London on the opening day of parliament with the King in residence.

The British Community in Florida are coming together this year for the annual celebration of Guy Fawkes/Bonfire Night November 5th. Two well known British-American Organisations ~ The British-American Business Council of Tampa Bay and the British-America Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida have organised their own events to celebrate in a truly traditional British fashion.

The British-American Business Council of Tampa Bay have organised their festivities at Mad Dog's & Englishmen Pub Tampa from 6pm till 9pm. They will be serving traditional food and closing the evening with fireworks and bonfire. www.babctampabay.org

The British-America Chamber of Commerce also have organised an event at Osceola Heritage Park, their Guy Fawkes Night kicks off at 6:30pm and promises bonfires, fireworks, traditional food and fun. www.britishamericanchamberorlando.com

Both these events will give you the opportunity to meet and mingle with other Brits abroad.

Celebrating Guy Fawkes Night on the evening of the 5th of November is a British staple, wrapping up warm in scarves and gloves heading out to the local park to watch fireworks and eat treacle toffee with family and friends is a tradition that should not be missed. Many thanks to the British Groups in Florida who keep us in touch with our roots!

Lets all come together this November 5th and make it UKinUSA!

Don’t forget to bring a penny for the guy!
