www.UltimateDiscStore.com Disappointed we could not beat the world record due to dangerous thunderstorms. We'll be back next year in an unbeatable 100 hour game that will never be beaten. Possibly indoors. Either way, I'll be playing this time.

www.UltimateDiscStore.com In Utica, Nebraska for the Longest Ultimate Frisbee game every played! Official Guinness World Record sponsored by UltimateDiscStore.com

www.UltimateDiscStore.com
UltimateDiscStore.com and Seward County CASA have teamed up to break a Guinness World Record for the longest Ultimate Frisbee marathon game. Thirty participants will compete in an 80 hour long game that will take place in Seward, Nebraska from May 22, 2009 at 7 a.m. to May 25, 2009 at 3 p.m.
Every game participant will... be responsible for playing (5) eight hour shifts. Each participant’s entrance fee will be $100. All proceeds will go to benefit abused and neglected children of Seward County. Each participant will be fed 3 meals a day plus snacks, and receive a customized full color disc and t-shirt provided by the Ultimate Disc Store, and be given the honor of setting a world record for a great cause. This event will be recognized by the World Flying Disc Federation, the disc sport record keeper for Guinness World Records.
According to the National Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse, “Approximately six children are reported abused and neglected in America every minute (more than 3 million abuse reports a year)”. Please help Seward County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocated) spread the word about child abuse awareness by participating in our upcoming community awareness, fundraising, and public relations world record setting event.
If you would like more information on volunteering or are interested in playing please see the CASA site at the following link for additional information.

**UPDATE - 04/19** We now have 19 registered players, and we're gaining a few more every day. If you want to play you need to sign up ASAP, because we're only allowed to have 30 players total for the record to be official with Guinness!
**UPDATE - 04/20** We got 3 more confirmed in the mail today for a total of 22 out of 30. Still no one from CUNE has confirmed so you if you want to play you better get it in ASAP. I think it will probably be full by the end of this week.
**UPDATE - 04/23** 25/30 confirmed!
**UPDATE - 04/30** 28/30 confirmed...still room for two more.
**LETTER/UPDATE FROM ME (owner of UDS)** 05/06/09
Hey Everybody!
Since some of you may have heard about the last 80 hour game, let me tell you about it, and why we're doing it again, and why this time it will be official with Guinness.
Two years ago, when I was a junior at Concordia, I decided to break the world record for the longest Ultimate game ever played. The official record was (and still is) held by Beloit College in Wisconsin at just over 72 hours. To be official with the WFDF, the record keeper for Guinness disc events, the game had to only allow 30 players total (15 per side). Since Concordia is a small school and this was during the school year, I knew it would be hard to get 30 players to be willing to free up an entire 4 days to play Ultimate. Also, I wanted to get as many people as possible involved in this event so I split the 80 hours up into 80 one hour shifts and let everyone play. We ended up getting over 400 different players although about 15 of us did the majority of the playing. Some of the players played 50-60 hours of the game, and I played whenever it looked like we might drop below the 14 necessary players on the field. I ended up playing in at least part of 73 out of the 80 hours. Here is the story from Concordia’s website: http://www.cune.edu/about/5297/topstorie s/8207/
Well the WFDF and Guinness never did accept allowing more than 30 players, so now we’re going to break it for real by keeping with the WFDF’s regulations and claim our spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Earlier this year, Jon Jank, a friend from college and now the director of Seward County CASA came to me with the idea to break the record to raise money for CASA (CASA is a non-profit that helps abused and neglected kids…you can read more about them in the event information and their website if you haven’t already). I now operate some disc websites, and I agreed to sponsor the event and help out as much as I could since I’ve organized an event like this before. Jon has done a great job organizing the event, and I think it will be a huge success. Let me share some things from last time, what we learned from them, and how this time will be similar, better, or just different.
1. Last time we allowed as many people as wanted to play although only 14 on the field at all times. We had over 400 people.
This time we will only allow 30 people to play to stay official with Guinness. It will be official 7 on 7 Ultimate.
2. Last time it was one continuous 80 hour game.
This time it will be back to back games to 15 with no more than 10 minutes between each game. This is called “Marathon Ultimate” and is what the record is.
3. Last time I let people switch teams so it would be easier to make sure we had 7 on 7 the entire time.
This time we are not allowed to switch teams. We will have to always keep people on call from each team so if an injury happens we will be ready.
4. Last time Concordia made us stop for lightening if it came within 30 miles of us.
This time if we stop for lightening the record is not official. We’re not going to stop for lightening off in the distance. We will stop if it is actually life threatening. If it comes to it we can also strategically use timeouts and the 10 minutes between games to try to avoid dangerous lightening.
5. Last time I tried to organize the entire event myself and probably didn’t do as good of a job as could have been done because I was busy with school and it was my first time. I notified about 7 local media sources and we got coverage from Seward newspaper and Omaha and Lincoln news stations.
This time Jon Jank is in charge and is doing a great job. He’s able to use his resources at CASA to make this a huge success. Last week they released a press release to 25 news sources including ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Fox, CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC etc. We’re hoping to get some national news coverage! He also organized people to provide meals for the 80 hours.
6. Last time I brought a large bottle of ibuprofen and we went through about half of it. You can take about 4 every four hours (don’t sue me if it kills you, but that’s what I do:). By the 30th hour my achilles was swollen and it hurt to wear shoes. After 73 hours of playing it was literally swollen for the next 9 months. By the end of the 80 hours after only getting a few hours of sleep the entire time, I was just about hallucinating.
This game I will also bring a large bottle of ibuprofen! After playing a long time you will be hurting and you will be sore, and some of you might want to quit. Five shifts of eight hours will be similar to running five marathons. You might (God forbid) even hate Ultimate for a couple days after all this. But don’t give up!
7. After the last game the sense of accomplishment we had after it was all said and done was amazing.
You’ll feel closer than family to the people you’ve been playing with. If you talk to David Buuck or any of the Chicago guys, or anyone else who played the majority of the time, they will tell you it was one of, if not the coolest thing they’ve ever done.
I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone, and I’m extremely excited for this event. I promised Jon I would help supervise this time, so unfortunately, I don’t get to play unless something happens to someone at the last minute and they can’t make it…but I’ll probably be at the field nearly the entire time! See you May 22!
