Ophelia I used copper strips around the top lip of my planting boxes as a chemical-free way to keep away snails and slugs, and it appears to work. Have others used this, and will the effectiveness wear off as the copper ages and gains a patina?

The ideal vegetable garden soil is deep, friable, well-drained, and has high organic matter content. Proper soil preparation provides the basis for good seed germination and subsequent growth of garden crops. ...

Laura herb garden, basic veges, fruit trees (some are already in place :)) AND whatever it takes to make the whole thing organic.

Diane Herb garden and the fixings for salad...something smaller scale for a subdivision, but I have few decent sized spots that seem to get good sunlight. Lots of morning sun in the backyard, steady sunlight on the side of the house.

Naomi Tomato plant pushing up now!

Harriette Speaking of weeds, anyone have a good orgnic solution for oxalis? I have dug and pulled for 4 years now and still, when it's finally dry enough to start digging, the oxalis rolls and flows all over my back yard. Now that my soil is finally in pretty good shape, the oxalis grows at least a foot and a half high!

Pauline Grace Is "crab grass" and "bermuda grass" the same thing? Or is crab grass a weed that looks like bermuda?

Home Grown Edible Landscapes Hey Jeanne B. I have roses in my garden (rose hips and petals are edible!). Here's a great link to Farmer Fred's (a CA MG) blog on pruning roses. It includes pictures which is always helpful. I've also got a great PDF on correct pruning from UCDavis. Email me at info@myhgel.com and I'll send it to you. ALSO - There are... great rose pruning workshops coming up all over. Tell me where you're gardening and I'll hook you up!
