My name is Alison Murray Whittington. I am an artist and mapmaker currently living in the Tidewater area of Virginia with my husband in a wacky house built long before we were born. I have also worked as a television producer, a journalist and a bookseller. I have degrees in how to rule the world and then how to tell ...everyone about it (international relations and print journalism). I have lived in Southern California, Nevada, Philadelphia, eastern Germany and the Czech Republic. I am crazy about vivid colors, incredible adventures, fairy tales, and magical places, real and imaginary. I'm not an expert on ships, or even maps, I just play one on watercolor paper. One of my many dreams is to build my own sailboat or ship and sail around the world. I don't know how to sail yet, but I'll learn. For the short-term, I am an armchair sailor.
