hmmm... i think that people interpret the bible differently based on their personality, upbringing, environment, culture, community, language, era and education. i also feel that our faith grows as we experience God's spirit. so, yes, we have different political views based on our Christian faith. I happen to have more progressive views, even ... Read Morethough I've grown up in middle class, white, U.S. Thank God for my abilities in Hebrew, Greek, German, Spanish and English. Thank God for my life and travels in 25 countries, and my close friends in at least 10 countries. Thank God for my seminary education in Chicago. And thank God for my spiritual development over the years through adversity, tragedy, traumas, joys, love, friendship, and gifts of wisdom from others. Point being, I wish I could influence some of your opinions on this blog, but I doubt I could. It would just be fodder for agreement or conflict...

The Book of Order is a good reminder that we agree to disagree without being disagreeable. Thankfully God's purpose now and for all eternity is fulfilled with or without our help. Discerning God's call in your life or in the life of our denomination is no small task. I applaud those who are seeking that call and the PCUSA, for articulating the challenges of mission in a world that is weary from war, famine, disease, and political exploitation.

The comments on this post should be proof enough that faithful people endorse both sides of this issue. So we as a church should stop arguing about it and focus instead on what unites us: faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to live out his will in the world without dictating to our neighbor how he or she should be living out his or her faith.
