On July 25, 2009, piano faculty member and alumna Shirley Hsiao-Ni Pan died following a five-year battle with breast cancer. A concert celebrating her life and teaching will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 25th in Griswold Hall on the Peabody Institute campus. Friends, colleagues, and students of Shirley will c...ontribute to the concert program. Shirley touched many lives and nurtured the development of many young musicians during her fifteen year tenure as first a doctoral student and then faculty member of both the Preparatory and Conservatory. An intensely private person who expressly forbade a memorial service, this concert is instead a celebration of the continuing legacy of her life and teaching. Please spread the word about this gathering; a fitting tribute to a remarkable artist and teacher. Those wishing to perform on the concert program should contact Tiffani Perry at tperry4@jhmi.edu or 410-234-4631. Please provide complete program information, including title, composer, all movement titles, total length and names of all performers. Someone will contact you to confirm your participation and provide further details. We encourage performers of all ages, as this represents the breadth of Shirley’s reach as a musician and teacher. We also invite you to submit a written tribute to Shirley for possible inclusion in the program at the following website: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform? formkey=dF9EV3JrT0VkLTFWa01nMDM5b25pWVE6 MA.. For out-of-town guests attending the memorial concert, rooms are available that weekend at the Peabody Inn, which is conveniently located right on campus. While it is not a full-service hotel, it offers basic, clean and comfortable accommodations at a special price of $60 per night (including tax) for concert attendees. Each room has 2 twin beds and a private bath. Please note: amenities such as TV, hair dryers, shampoo, or tissues are not provided. To make a reservation, contact Barbara Wadyka by e-mail bwadyka1@jhem.jhmi.edu, or by phone at 410-234-4770 on weekdays, between 8AM - 3PM. We request that you make your reservation by October 20.
