As human populations continue to grow exponentially, an increasing number of people are moving away from towns and encroaching on traditional wildlife habitat, forcing animals into ever smaller and fragmented areas where people and animals are increasingly coming into conflict over living space and resources such as food. The impacts of this are often huge. People lose their crops, livestock, property and sometimes their lives. The animals, many of which are already endangered, are often killed in retaliation or to ‘prevent' future conflicts.
The primary focus for this day will be to bring communities and wildlife that are essentially at conflict together to leave aside the conflict and celebrate a shared environment. The sustainability of this approach will be explored through our long term commitment to reducing human-wildlife conflict and equally important to explore the possibilities of a global paradigm shift from ‘Human-Wildlife Conflict' to ‘Human-Wildlife Cooperation' This might be ambitious to push for a change in approach through language and implementation but has a range of positive possibilities that could follow.
Activities will be underway in Kenya, Tanzania and Malaysia (Borneo)

‘Paz Con Todo’ is a team of approximately 10 volunteers who got together in 2009 to raise awareness of Peace Day in Venezuela. Due to the current violence present in their country, this team of students, teachers and youth organisations decided to start a project to try and bring peace to Venezuela, starting with Caracas city, helping change the mentality and waking up the respect of one person to another. Now, there are over 30 people in charge of different aspects of the project and over 1000 people have pledged their support to help make it a success.
The idea is to organise Peace Day activities in Caracas and around Venezuela creating a base for future observances in the country. There will be multiple events nationwide within the different initiatives. The education department will be encouraging the students to talk about peace and what the benefits of living in a peaceful place, building a society that can flourish and helping one another. They will also be asked to join in on the 21 September and take part in different activities.
Other initiatives include sports (Caracas Futbol Club, as part of the One Day One Goal campaign, will play on Peace Day against another team, and there will be a ceremony, where the players will wear peace bracelets and give their testimony of what Peace means to them); arts, culture and social events, such as screenings of The Day After Peace; and an advertising campaign including a press conference to launch the website, radio interviews, appearances in various TV channels and radios.
Promotional videos will also appear on TV and movie theaters all over Caracas, with more than 15 artists talking about peace and making their commitment to Peace Day.
In the spirit of Peace One Day, ‘Paz Con Todo’ will also be working on a call for ceasefire in 4 poor and very violent communities in Caracas, including one of the most dangerous jails in Venezuela.
“We believe that peace will not exist if there is no social justice.”
