On 12 July we mark the six month commemoration of the Haiti earthquake. The UN continues to work with the Haitian authorities and the population to meet priority needs and rebuild the country. Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all the victims, the Haitian people and our UN colleagues who tragically lost their lives in striving for a better world.

      • Tilo Stolz As the first country to shake off the shackles of slavery and to gain independence in 1804, the people of Haiti will ensure that the future of Haiti is a bright one. RIP to all those who lost their lives in the terrible tragedy of 12 January 2010.

      • Karen Helveg Petersen What is so extra sad is that there is so little reconstruction going on. There was so much support for the people of Haiti but beyond the emergency progress seems to have stalled. The ruins are still there, etc. It is time to work with the people of Haiti on their self-organisation of the reconstruction of their country. That is the respect we owe all the dead and the wouned.
