One
look at who's donating to the Ohioans for Livestock Care PAC clearly
shows that Issue 2 is NOT about small farms, it's about factory farms. (

Laura, we urge you and all Ohio voters to take a closer, more transparent look at PAC contributions. The following link takes you to the Secretary of State's Web site where you can see each individual contribution made.

The remainder of this post is a quote from our Director of State Policy, Beth Vanderkooi, (her full comments can be read on the second post below this on our Facebook Wall):
"This is not a case of "small vs large" farms. Farmers of all sizes are coming out in support of Issue 2. And that is true despite what is being said by opponents of Issue 2. You can look it up online at the Ohio Secretary of State's website. Anyone running a campaign in Ohio is required to adhere to campaign finance law and disclose donations (unfortunately, the last I checked the opponents to issue 2 had not bothered to comply with this law). You will see that we only raised about $3.6 million. That is still a lot of money. But you will also see that it didn't come from a bunch of large-scale operation farms, but from farmers and farm organizations of all sizes. Of the almost 2000 entities who donated to the campaign, about 85% of them were farmers or organizations (like Farm Bureau) who represent farmers. That is $3 million of $3.6 million.
And before you try to buy into the hype that Farm Bureau is big agribusiness - think again. But first, keep in mind that size of a farm has nothing to do with how good or bad a farm might be. Farms of all sizes that are run by people committed to agriculture are going to be good, and farms of all sizes can have bad actions. We do know that there are about 76,000 farms in Ohio. 98% of those are family farms. And Farm Bureau represents about 60,000 of those - or 90% of Ohio farmers. When you think about the fact that only about 200 of Ohio's farms are what the opponents to Issue 2 would call "factory farms" - well, that argument just doesn't hold water."
