  • Working on a new article called, “What to Take to the Hospital” for the site. For those that have had a baby in China already, what do you recommend bringing when going into labor?

      • Jessi Rhodes George well everything you would bring to an American hospital plus, food, toilet paper, and a baby bath tub so your baby can have her first bath :)

      • Jane Hunt Depends where you are...my international hospital in shanghai had everything I needed. I only had to bring clothes for me, going home outfit for the baby and any personal items I wanted. Much better than giving birth back home!

      • Sharon Flynn Jess, you forgot anesthesia, pain medication and clean sheets.

I had my first child 3 months ago at a private Chinese hospital in Chengdu. They also provided pretty much everything… soap, toothbrush, towels, all meals, pajamas, slippers… but as an average-sized American woman, the pajamas and slippers ...didn’t quite fit, haha :) Good thing I brought my own! Also, I was glad to have my pregnancy book since there were some unexpected things I wanted to read-up about (in English) before the delivery. And it was great to have my own information about breastfeeding afterwards since the help I got at the hospital was NOT working for me. Also, an iPhone or laptop to Skype with family members back home!See More

      • Having a Baby in China ‎Jane Hunt Yes, it does very much depend on where you are. Thanks for the info! At which hospital did you deliver in Shanghai?

      • Having a Baby in China Thanks, Jane. I've not heard of this one. We need to get someone to do a write up on it. You interested..? :)

      • Patrick Smith I would take less (both Beijing places I delivered at had EVERYTHING I needed--BJunitedfamily and Amcare) than I did. The only things I really "needed" were flattering, comfortable clothes for me, and "cute" clothes for the babies. :) Kim (not Patrick-ha!)
