On December 25, 2012 in the Rutshuru territory in the DRC, an armed group, known to protect the Nande community, burned a young Hutu to death. In retaliation, a group of outraged Hutus destroyed the Nande’s traditional meeting porch. SFCG sent in a rapid response team to mediate the conflict and promote peace between the two communities. These efforts paid off on January 26, when Nandes and Hutus came together and built a physical bridge that now connects the two communities.
