July 16 - Pioneering Women

Bethany Mordhorst, senior in animal science, works in the Veterinary Medical Research Center, where she developed a passion for research – studying animal genetics and breeding, animal nutrition, and then finding her true calling in animal reproduction physiology. Mordhorst is the 13th recipient of the Helen M. Maddock Scholarship for Women in Animal Science, created by ISU alumna Helen Maddock to encourage young women pursuing careers in animal science. A 1949 graduate, Maddock was the only woman to graduate from Iowa State in animal husbandry that year.
