some of this is not really true. in tropical regions they bite humans often and their venom will cause tissue deterioration if not seen by a doctor immediately. I am talking about common wolf spiders, not brown recluse etc.

I get these in my house ALL. SUMMER. LONG. I never kill them though, I trap them and carry them back outside. At which point they promptly trundle back around to the screened-in porch and sneak back in again. From pea-sized to half-dollar sized, even my cats and dogs don't care anymore when one wanders across the living room rug.

Also I think they've figured out my house is a safe haven where they won't be smushed, because they are getting a little territorial. One jumped at my black lab the other day and sent her scurrying and scrambling towards the bedroom in alarm (my dog is sweet, not so bright).

Southern IN is smothered in spiders. We have a bunch of these dudes running around, they can get pretty big. Not exactly tarantula sized but still enough to freak you when they scurry by!

I respect spiders, but find them difficult to reason with. I used to try to explain the rules of my house to them, but after they bit my cat, now they must immediately leave, or be squished.

If you go out in the dark, put the butt-end of a flashlight on your forehead, so the beam is aiming down at the ground, and then look around you may see some green, glowing spots. Those are spider eyes. My sisters and I did that in Mississippi and it really worked! We homed in on a set of eyes and there's a big spider sitting there in the pine needles. It's very cool.

I am another pro-spider person. When I was a kid I found a wolf spider tunnel and I used to catch crickets and doodlebugs and drop them outside for the spider. She would dart out and grab them. It was amazing. I also loved the orb spinners that wove incredible huge constructions between the trees in the woods near our house.

Okay, that's a bit more up close and personal than I wanted to get to any spider. That said, wolf spiders are the only spiders I don't freak out about when I find them in my house. I'm told they don't spin webs and they eat other spiders. If that's true then they can stay...as long as they stay up high on the wall and don't come any where near me. They get too close and the spider relocation program kicks in (grab bug vac...vac spider...release outside).

As far as I'm concerned, and (I think) my kids as well, the creepier and crawlier, the scalier, and the slimier, the better. We have a couple of these guys (okay, might be ladies) living at our home in the mountains. And because of them, we have NO other insects around. Wings and legs from time to time, but that's it. The big one tried to sleep with us the other night and that didn't go well...he got batted across the room and has been shy ever since.

AAAAAAAGH! So THAT'S what they are! We've got those & tarantulas ALL over the place! We're sure that these are the ones biting those of us in the home as we sleep. My son & one daughter are HIGHLY sensitive to the bites & have had the bites turn into a sort of staph infection, traveling up their extremity(ies) & needing antibiotics! IK! thank Heavens for the exterminator!!

I lived in a house, on the edge of a wood, where Wolf spiders (sometimes called "Engineer spiders") were very common. both inside and outside the building. I refused to kill them at the request of my ex, but would catch them and put them outside. Of course they'd get back in! I like spiders, though I'd never consider having one as a pet or handling one.

I like seeing all of Gods creatures so post whatever you like.
