One of my best friends just got a job there. I'm excited for him...and I am especially excited about visiting him.

I love this trail! But I was there before they put the Skyway in. Why did that have to be there?! It's a national park, not an amusement park.

Been there long years ago. Came home that way when I got out of the USMC in 1960.

I hiked the Bright Angel Trail, from the bottom to the top. Did 3 river trips. Its way awesome!

not that expensive at all..it depends what part of it you go to, some parts are free, and some are like 20 dollars per vehicle

Have been to the Grand Canyon but was about 30 some years ago. Haven't been since the Skywalk was built. Wouldn't go out on it anyway - am a chicken when it comes to heights. Was okay standing on solid ground looking out over the canyon. Most amazing sight I had ever seen.

I have heard it is incredible, but VERY expensive. You also have to wear special booties over your shoes so that the special glass on the walkway doesn't get scratched and ruined.

I think I would pass on the skywalk, unless I could wear my parachute when I was on it, just in case....

the grand canyon is one of my favorite national parks to visit its not exspensive you can camp there cheap its only 20$ to get in but that pass is good for all 7 national parks for a week so its a really good deal.. the north rim is less crowed then the south rim and its on the utah side of course its still in az by the time you get there..

The Skywalk is amazing!!! Did it this past June!!! Yes it is expensive but totally worth it!!!

ive been twice and hiked bright angel to indian garden.
the skywalk is actually a good distance from Grand Canyon Village (the main tourist part) as it is on the Hualapai (sp) reservation not the park.
there is another reservation called Havasupai and you can hike into this village which is the most beautiful place in the canyon. it is very lush and has some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world

I have not been to south rim GC since 2001 and north rim since 1972.

@Emily: the Skyway is on the reservation to the west, not in the national park.

There was a book by Margeurite Henry called Brighty of the Grand Canyon. His proper name was Bright Angel. I wonder if she used this trail as the inspiration for her book. It is one of my favorites.

I've been to the Grand Canyon twice, but haven't been on the skywalk. The canyon is awesome!!!

You truly can't describe how vast the canyon is, you have to feel small there and wonder... I was there in 1990, aside from the pollution, even in Feb., it was indescribably cool. No Skywalk back then, but I would do it.

the trail from mather's point to bright angel lodge is only 2.5 miles! it is sooooo worth the hike!! the views are georgeous!!!

I haven't been on the Skywalk, but I have been on the Colorado River through the canyon. That is an incredible and amazing experience, something you should try to do in your lifetime once if you can somehow manage it. Also hiking down (Bright Angel or Kaibob) and back up is incredible because the canyon changes so much at each different level -- bottom, middle, top, it's like being in a completely different place from each vantage point.

I think the Grand Canyon is the most amazing natural wonder I have ever seen, but I don't think my legs would carry me out onto that Skywalk--I think they would refuse.

i hiked that trail all the way to the bottom and back. 18 sodding miles. Amazing.

Have not been to the Skywalk, but I *have* been to this same spot on the Bright Angel Trail. The Grand Canyon being what it is, I doubt it's changed much since 1987. :)

In late june of 2006, I was on my way to the north rim of the canyon. I made it as far as Fredonia, AZ when I saw the signs saying the road to the north rim was closed due to wild fires. I guess I'll have to try again some other time.

used to visit the Grand Canyon back in the mid/late 60's, early 70's when we lived in Phoenix/Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, Arizona. it was beautiful back then. it's still beautiful. would love to try to walk on the skywalk...if my fear of heights will let me. beautiful photo! thanks for sharing! :)

Bright Angel Trail is beautiful!

I had mixed emotions about it. It was awesomely beautiful. But, it was also un-nerving. But, so worth the anxiety I had. What a great view.

My backpacking trip into the Canyon (& everyone should do it at least once) was from the north rim - in March - we blasted through snowdrifts in 2 VW campers! It was in the 80s at the base of the canyon, we spent 8 days, an experience I'll never forget!

according to the FAQs at www.grandcanyonskywalk.com, no personal items (they provide free lockers) in an effort to preserve the glass. There is however a video on youtube called "The grand canyon skywalk". Also fyi, it's very expensive (29.95/person + park entrance fee). Personally, I wouldn't think the skywalk is worth it. I love the canyon tho. If you ever get a chance, do a dories trip (www.oars.com). Absolutely incredible; one of the best trips I've ever done. fwiw

if you're going to that skywalk... call ahead to make sure the road isn't washed out. No one will tell you in advance and it's a heck of a long drive for that disappointment. I gained and lost on that one. I lost out on the trip and gained in experience...

GC is amazing; the skywalk sounds great but so expensive! In Toronto, they have a similar thing in the CN Tower - you can walk on a glass floor - it is quite unnerving and terrifying at first, but when you get a little accustomed to it, it's not so bad. You can take pictures, which I have, and they will take a pic of you from overhead so you see ... See Moreyourself and the view below you - pretty cool. No cost to walk out on the glass floor, you can take pics, and the pic they take costs about $20 for an 8x10. Hello, Grand Canyon, learn from this!!
