Can you tell anyone "what the theft" was?

Generally we do not release all information. Its called a "hold". This way there is information that only a few people know about in connection with the crime. Info that the criminal would know as well. When they confess, we can evaluate the value of the confession by verifying the info that only they and the investigators would know. If we gave it all out all the time, we might have people faking the confession---which happens.

That makes sense, (about the info), the faking the confession part, not so much???

But, there are allot of strange people out there!
