Thanks to the efforts of one of the Dekeyser&Friends Cebu Fellows, Rachel Dares from Canada, the children of the Saint Arnold Janssen Learning Centre in Bankal, Philippines receive 126 brand new storybooks donated by the Biblionef Foundation in the Netherlands. Teacher Rosalyn Anteporta (pictured left) was grateful for the donations and excited to share these stories with the 120 children who will benefit.

The books will be shared between a preschool located on the Mactan Dumpsite, which serves families who live directly on the landfill, and the nearby learning centre in Saint Arnold Janssen village (pictured above), a rehousing project for impoverished families spearheaded by local NGO JPIC.

Cebu Fellow Rachel Dares (pictured right) applied to the Biblionef Foundation for book donations after volunteering in the preschools and witnessing the small number of books in both classrooms. Rachel was delighted to find out there are organisations like Biblionef dedicated to literacy and that we were able to harness some of these resources for preschools in the Philippines that truly need them.

The Biblionef Foundation offers more than 500,000 new books per year to children in developing countries around the world, relying solely on gifts, donations and sponsors for its activities. For more information, visit www.biblionef.org and www.dekeyserandfriends.org.
