GIVE YOUR KITCHEN 45 MINUTES! - I just spent 45 minutes like a cyclone in my own kitchen. Fifteen minutes going through the refrigerator and a half hour through the pantry and other cupboards. Yikes! What a difference. Out went those condiments that we haven't used in a year, farewell to that "I'm-not-sure-what-this-is" frozen item that I didn't label, goodbye to a couple of cans of beets with a use-by date of 12/09 (dont' ask - I have no idea how they slipped by my eagle eye!) It's the weekend - find 45 minutes to give your kitchen the cyclone treatment (get the whole family involved), toss, declutter and reorganize - the end result it worth it!
    • Jill Calzada Pruett excellent tip :-)
      Thank You
    • Lori A Mingus When I moved to Oregon to help my aging parents, I did just that. I found pounds and pounds of expired products on their shelves and in their refrigerator some dated 1990 - YUCK; they felt the outdated food was not a problem so I had to do it on the sly and restock with fresh products! So no room saved ;-(
    • Dala Tilley Mulholland P- Love your kitchen! Looking forward to Jan. Hugs, D
    • Adrienne Crow Glorious kitchen! Just beautiful... and so tidy!!
    • Andrea Gearllach I do this on a monthly basis & keep it up thank you to "Its All Too Much". I also go thru my pantry just before the holidays and donate goods near expiration date that Im not going to use any time soon, to the food bank so they won`t get wasted.
    • Kathy Patten Moss Before I had even read this I had already gone through one of my kitchen drawers! I'd like to say, "Great minds think alike"!
    • Renée Matey Stokes Wow! That is one sleek-looking kitchen!
    • Cheryl Miller Coles Thanks for sharing! Glad to hear you are like the rest of us:) Guess I have some work ahead of me!!

    • Johnifer Baker Just did that this morning and cleaned too. "great minds....."
    • Connie Simon Thank you, Peter. Wish you had daily email reminders for the Organizationally Challenged. How's your APP coming along?
    • Peter Walsh The APP is going a little slower than I'd hope Connie but it should be available early in the new year - it's looking REALLY good!!
    • Dawn Roehrich
we just bought our first house. and in packing the pantry (huge that it was) i found tons of food the use by date gone by. empties lots into compost, then recycled containers. THEN i figured out that as much as i LIKE soup, i don't NEED... 89 cans of different kinds. 75 of those went to the food bank along with tons of other boxed foods and canned good that i didn't think we would eat in the next three months. saved me from moving it. someone who NEEDED it NOW got it. but let me tell you, it was difficult. i really didn't grow up HUNGRY, but i just have a need to have enough food. smaller pantry in new house should help with that.See More
    • Nancy Sreden Goldblatt I learned the hard way, you really need to keep an eye on those canned goods. A couple of times the "use-by" date got overlooked for WAAAY too long, and the cans kind of exploded on the pantry shelf. It was disgusting, what a mess to clean up!! I'm a lot more diligent about that now :-)
    • Julie Smith I try to do my pantry a couple of times a year to keep on top of things...and to remember what's in there! I do the fridge regularly but it's all the other cupboards I have trouble with. I think I'll empty the drawers into a box and only put things back after I use them...one of your tips if I recall. Thanks for your regular posts to remind me of all the great things you've taught me so far. :-D
    • Jasmine Barton This is top of my to-do list! My pantry isn't too bad because I'm very meticulous when I do my grocery shopping, so I don't stockpile too much - it could still do with a good clean out & reorganise. My utensil/gadget drawer on the other hand is a mess - I really need to throw out a lot of stuff from there that I just don't use.
    • Susan Deitz Horchler peter...are you an ikea fan? To me, the kitchen has that european flair to it.
    • Eydie Hamilton I sure hope I can see this in Canada!!!!!! I miss you on Clean Sweep.
    • Rae McInnes A disability-friendly cupboard ; wow! That's the kind of thing my mother needs, as it can be tricky to organise and arrange her things in a way that's accessible to her. A lot of lateral thinking on my part, and awareness of how I monouvre and reach for things myself.
    • Anja Poole ‎*sigh* having serious kitchen-envy right now!!!
      Okay, I'll go clean mine.... : )
    • Lucy Cafiero Great minds think alike!! I just decluttered my office that I was using as a hold all...and I'm a professional organizer!! I have to practice what I preach when it comes to my home office..but it looks great now!!
    • Laurie Kelly I did mine a few weeks ago when I was looking for stuff for my kids to bring to school for donations. Well, truth be told, I haven't done the junk drawer yet, but I did do the kitchen island so the kids & I could do our gingerbread house :) Have a great weekend!
    • Helen Mashburn I like this idea - my hubby is going to a basketball game tonight, this is a perfect job for my little Yorkie and myself, she loves all the noise of garbage.
    • Kathlene Sheen I normally do a clean fridge out every Sunday before bin day. Need to do the cupboards and freezer stocktake again so I can menu plan and use everything before new year. Thanks again Peter!
    • Peter Walsh Loving all these comments!!
    • Cara Macaluso After reading your post I cleaned out and reorganized my cabinets. Thanks - it's nice to open the cabinet and not see a disaster area!
    • Lisa Vargas I love seeing other people's houses! It gives me great ideas for my own! Thanks Peter:) I love your tips and advice!!!
    • Stacey Crew Cool kitchen!
    • Tracy Greco Howard Kids are sleeping so I guess I have no excuse not to do this, would be much more motivated if I had your kitchen!!! How can we get Optimum/ Cablevision on LI, NY to carry the OWN channels so I can go back to watching you daily???
    • Morag McWilliam I am just SHOCKED that you would even need to clear out your kitchen (or any other area)! I thought for sure everywhere in your home would be immaculate ;) You give everyone else hope.
    • Annalise Shaddock Tworkowski oh god this is on my "to do" list before chrissy. . .Have done all my Tupperware but need to do my tins condiments etc. . Have done my fridge, freezers and outside fridge. . .Time is of the essence

    • Robyn Williams OMG that kitchen is fantastic! *dreams*
    • Joy Jordon Yep, my fridge gets a check-over every Wednesday night for Thursday morning trash pick-up, and my pantry is totally cleared out and checked every 3 months (the months I am off-track from teaching)...keep those tips and reminders coming Peter!!!
    • Maria Todo ‎'bitchin' kitchen' PW! love the red glam with the marble and that wall of glass I'm hoping is a roll-up? can see in the reflection a giant window in the back. h-o-t! :)
    • Mike Schneider I love your kitchen. Just goes to show out of sight out of mind maintenance is the key.
    • Cynthia Montgomery It makes me feel good that even Peter Walsh forgot to label something he threw in the freezer. I thought I was the only one.........
    • Paul Alencikas God I love LOVE this pull-out. Getting ready to re-model. Peter, you're a dream.
    • Becky Ballard Juergens As a family we cleaned out the fridge yesterday including cleaning every bin and shelf. Then we went grocery shopping and then put everything away neatly. What I can't figure out is where some odd things that expired 3 years ago came from. We moved 15 months ago and cleaned out everything then and periodically since. Its a mystery.
    • Leah Sandow ‎....................................................................................OK, I am going to try this ! Thanks Peter !! Don't ever lose your Melbourne accent either ! • Janet Hodgin Veal Can you show us more of your cupboards?? Where and how do you store your tupperware containers?
    • Jennifer Warner-Cooper i love those cabinets.
