The Planetary Society Last door in the Advent Calendar...
planetary.org
I know I already posted Earth once before. But I could not resist winding up the calendar with this view of a new Earth, for the new year. Unlike all the rest of the images I've posted, this one was not processed by an amateur. ...

Robert Jones I'd like to hear some thoughts about the Russian decision to attempt to deflect Apropos.

Planetary Society Advent Calendar for December 31: Uranus - The Planetary Society Blog | The Planeta
www.planetary.org
Did you think I was going to skip Uranus? How could I? I keep coming back to Uranus as one of my favorite places in the solar system, because there's so much to see there, yet it's been so little explored and is quite likely to remain so. ...

I just got a press release from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory that made my heart sink; the extrication effort for Spirit is not going at all well. That's actually one reason I haven't been reporting much on the efforts here -- I did not want to keep sounding a knell of bad news. ...

The Planetary Society The year in pictures...
www.planetary.org
The year 2009 saw a lull in launches to other planets, with both the American and Russian planned launches to Mars slipping two years to 2011. Momentous events occurred nearer to Earth, however: March ...

Hernan Fernando Happy New Year to all my friends at the Planetary Society! May the coming year see the fulfillment of all your desires!

Ironton Rail-Trail I am excited about all the great discoveries that are being made about our world, and other worlds. Unfortunately, it has not had an impact, yet, on making the world a better place to live. Hopefully, within my lifetime, some of the inner and outer world discoveries being made WILL benefit mankind. We must continue... to seek knowledge - it is our only hope for the future. Keep up the good work. You dreamers are my inspiration! Who ever thought that we would get back to "sailing" for new discoveries?

Looking over the list of planets, moons, and smaller bodies I posted so far, I realized I didn't have an image of a comet yet. There's a couple of reasons for my neglect. One is that, by and large, our imaging of comets is not particularly good. ...

Christophe Clément Connaissez-vous 'The Planetary Society' et son rève de voilier spatial?

Bob Ware
With the TPS event on 1/23 coming up does anyone realize who the 3 most prominent individuals who got mankind to the moon are? As I see it they are:
Robert Goddard (liquid fuel)
Werner Von Braun (rocket designer)
Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin (figured out slow and anchored astronauts) make space work possible -- proved so on Gemini-Titan 12 mission.
Thanks guys!

Nader R. Ajluni I think encouraging space exploration can help decrease human conflict.

Matt Lucking I'm excited we're going to launch Lightsail-1! Go TPS!

Mike Are there any Planetary Society events/activities in the Chicago area?
