Goals: • Integrate peer education and youth organizing into national advocacy campaigns. • Create opportunities for young people to become leaders in the reproductive justice movement and for Planned Parenthood. • Advocate for improved health policies, including an end to abstinence-only programs and increased funding... for comprehensive sex education. • Utilize new media to highlight our youth programs, particularly social networking and video. To do this Planned Parenthood Federation of America will in 2009: • Support affiliates to meet the needs of young people in their communities by creating youth-specific tool kits around national advocacy campaigns. • Build and foster communication with and among youth coordinators/staff members who work with young people through bi-weekly calls, periodic communications, and strategic assistance. • Provide support to affiliate youth work through annual trainings and updated materials. • Create and sustain monthly communication with the field, highlighting youth activities at the national, state, and local level. • Build a diverse national network of teens and young people who support access to health care by: o working closely with Planned Parenthood Federation of America Latino Outreach Program o concentrating efforts within diverse communities and income areas • Assist young people in becoming public spokespersons on behalf of Planned Parenthood and women’s health through training on: o earned media skills (including interviews, letter to the editors, and op-eds) o lobbying on legislative issues o social networking and new media strategies o forming an affiliate young leaders speakers bureau • Create the foundation of a Young Leaders Board through identifying teens and young adults at Young Leaders Summit, participation in outreach events, and with affiliate recommendations. • Participate in national and appropriate state coalitions on behalf of Planned Parenthood and women’s reproductive rights.
